People from all walks of life have hidden talents that surprise you when you find out about them. Take the New Zealand Police, for instance. They jumped into the spotlight on the Internet with their smooth dance moves when they challenged other police departments around the globe to top their performance.

Now, they are back with a new video, this time dancing an energetic hip-hop routine.

The Running Man Challenge

The original Running Man Challenge video has gotten over 46,000 views on YouTube and has made the dancers from the New Zealand Police a household name in some areas. A description of the video sums up the reasoning behind the video:

“Many staff members in New Zealand Police dance in their spare time with friends and family. We also catch people on the run every day; this was a new #runningmanchallenge for our team.”

The Running Man Challenge has spread like wildfire since it was first issued, attracting such participants as the New York, Miami, and London Police. And while not all of the performances have matched the New Zealand Police, it has allowed some of the more talented individuals at the various departments to show off their dance moves.

The video, which was posted on the department’s recruitment channel on YouTube, was so successful that the team decided to attend the Hip Hop Unite New Zealand National Championship in Wellington and show off their new skills.

Once on stage, they showed some of the new skills they had learned since their initial online performance. The dance squad pulled off some sweet moves, including the “Carlton Dance” and some slick breakdancing that brought down the house.

Initially, the crew wasn’t scheduled to perform but asked event organizers if they could perform on stage following the success of their Running Man Challenge video. Of course, event organizers were quick to say yes, they told Stuff,

“We thought it was great; our event is all about building community, so thought it was a really good fit. We kept it hush-hush so it would be a surprise for people.”
