Fluffy Newfoundland found living on LA streets loves frolicking in snowy new hometown
Hope for Paws is an animal rescue organization that uses the power of YouTube and social media to bring more awareness to animal rescue, inspire more people to rescue, adopt, and, in turn, reduce euthanasia rates at shelters.
They received a call about a gentle giant dog abandoned on the streets of Los Angeles, California.
LA is no place for a Newfie.
Now, this is where Hope for Paws is different from typical animal rescue organizations.
They don’t have a shelter or a place where they can drop off the animals they rescue.
Before they can rescue any animal, they need to have a plan. Most importantly, they need a place where the animal can settle for a while before moving to a forever home.
And thankfully, they had a plan.
Eldad Hagar, the founder of Hope for Paws, went to the location with one of their rescuers, Loreta.
When they found the dog, a Newfoundland, he was lying down on a sidewalk corner.
Loreta walked up to him with a rolled-up leash hidden behind dog treats.
She held out the treat to the dog who ate it out of her hand.
He must have been so hungry because he kept eating and eating the treats on Loreta’s hand.
One of the residents nearby came and told Eldad and Loreta that there were actually two dogs but one of them had already disappeared.
Not wanting to scare the dog and have it run off, Loreta developed the trust she shared with the dog with food.
She gave him a cheeseburger
As he ate, she slipped the leash around his neck. But she was still gentle.
She didn’t tighten the leash around him but, instead, continued to feed him the cheeseburger.
As soon as the dog was done eating, she took him to Eldad’s car and brought him to her place.
Then, she gave him a bath.
At her place, she gave him a long shower to remove the city’s dirt from his black fur.
He was very quiet and still while Loreta rubbed and washed off the dirt.
Maybe he was relieved to finally be clean. Or is it because he felt Loreta’s loving touch?
When he settled on the couch beside her that’s when she noticed that he was so skinny under all that fur. He was also very depressed.
But not for long.
A few days later, Hope for Paws received an adoption application for the dog they named Everest.
A family from Oregon wanted to adopt Everest and have him with their little family which included two dogs named Bonnie and Clyde.
Here’s what makes it so special.
Clyde is also a Newfoundland and he’s been trained to be a therapy dog.
As a therapy dog, he has been going to the children’s hospital to brighten up the days of the sick children admitted there.
Everest will be trained to be a therapy dog, just like Clyde.
