NFL star offers to take girl to daddy-daughter dance after suddenly losing her dad

Audrey Soape had a difficult year in 2021. The 11-year-old found it difficult to deal with the agony of loss following the abrupt deaths of her father in March and her grandpa five weeks later.

Holly Soape, her mother, understood the Texas middle-schooler needed a pick-me-up, so she came up with a plan.

Holly knew she had to do something.

Holly asked Anthony Harris of the Philadelphia Eagles on social media whether he could go as Audrey’s date to their church’s father-daughter dance in January.

She was aware that it was a hefty request. But to her surprise, the athlete actually agreed!

She didn’t see that coming!

Harris, 30, kept his word and arrived for the dance looking dapper in a black suit and coordinating shoes. Due to the fact that he was Audrey’s favorite football player, Holly specifically chose to reach out to him.

Since Harris played for the Minnesota Vikings in the past, the family has been a fan. They frequently contacted him over social media to express their prayers.

It was a dream come true for Audrey.

“[I was] just trying to be a human,” Harris remarked. “Trying to take off the helmet, trying to take off the cape of what I do professionally, and just show some sympathy for that family and try to show some support there.”

The NFL player wasn’t first certain that his schedule would permit him to attend. But he had enough spare time after the Eagles were eliminated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the playoffs to take Audrey to the dance.

It meant so much to the family.

“I told him about the situation and surprisingly, he was more than willing to do it,” Holly shared. “It happened really fast. He said ‘yes’ probably about a week before, so it was kind of a whirlwind.”

Harris also covered the cost of Audrey’s outfit, makeup, shoes, and hair!

He really went above and beyond!

“He had a car with a driver come to the house and pick her up,” Holly recounted. “He really wanted to make sure she had the best possible time.”

Audrey had a royal experience the whole evening, which was precisely what Harris intended. She is really appreciative of Harris for taking time out of his schedule to be with her because she is aware of how busy an athlete can be.

It was more than what she needed.

“A normal player would probably be like ‘I don’t have time for this. I have to be focused for next season or the playoffs,'” Audrey said. “But he took time out of his schedule to take me so that was pretty special.”

Needless to say, Audrey felt incredibly nervous and shy around his idol but the NFL star made it comfortable for her.

Harris introduced himself by chatting about football and asked Audrey about her day. Holly is only grateful that she can provide her kid with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

And kudos to Harris for choosing to shed some light on a fan who’s going through so much—he is truly worth supporting!
