Gabi Angelini and Nick Doyle met in April 2019 at the National Down Syndrome Society’s annual convention in Detroit, Michigan. Both have the genetic disorder.

By the end of the event, the two were inseparable. And they still are, despite living in different cities.

Angelini, 21, is an entrepreneur in Raleigh, North Carolina who owns a coffee business – Gabi’s Grounds – that employs other people with disabilities.

Doyle, 30, is from Canton, Ohio and performs in the world’s first all-Down Syndrome improv comedy troupe, The Improvaneers.

When the two left the conference, they didn’t get each other’s contact information in all the chaos of parents, caretakers, and organizers making sure everyone was accounted for. But knowing that he wanted to see Angelini again, Doyle tracked her down on social media.

In a piece written by Doyle’s mom Lisa on Facebook and later posted on Gabi’s Grounds, she recalled just how smitten the two were with each other after that first meeting.

“The conference ends with a dance held by the organizers where the two were inseparable.”

In June, the duo attended a second conference in Pittsburgh, but were devastated to find that there were no more events that would bring them together after that. Lisa reported that Angelini was in tears:

“A couple of weeks after they got back home, Gabi broke down crying to her mom, telling her how much she missed Nick.”

Unwilling to see her daughter so unhappy, Angelini’s mother reached out and the two moms concocted a plan to reunite their lovebirds. Now, the video of their reunion is going viral.

“Mary, Gabi’s mom, reached out to me and we knew we had to do something to get them together. Mary booked a flight for her and Gabi to come to visit us in Canton. We decided we would try to surprise them. Mary told Gabi they were going to a conference…I told Nick a friend needed a ride home from the airport.”

Doyle’s mom Lisa recorded their surprise reunion as Angelini stepped out of the gate. Her son was so shocked at seeing his girlfriend that he fell to his knees.

Once he got back up, the two embraced.

Over 1.7 million people have seen the video on Lisa Doyle’s Facebook page alone.

And – as expected – the couple had a wonderful time together in Ohio.

Nick Doyle’s mother said she had never seen him so happy in all his 30 years.

The moms have now set up a Facebook account for the pair and they confirmed the two families would meet up again in September.

Lisa Doyle said:

“Gabi and her mom will be joining our family for our annual Hilton Head Island beach vacation mid-September! It’s just a short drive from their home in Raleigh. We are all excited, but no one more than Nick and Gabi! The parents promised we would get them together at least once a month until something more permanent can be arranged.
In the meantime – thank goodness for unlimited talk, text and FaceTime!”

Lisa Doyle said the relationship was remarkable because “neither Nick nor Gabi have ever been in a relationship before.”

But we all know that when you find love you just know what to do.

On September 27th, Gabi posted a photo of herself with a “promise ring” and the moms are confident that wedding bells are not far off.
