No one wanted to adopt this disabled German shepherd then the perfect person stepped in

Animal lovers everywhere should celebrate the amazing people who care for disabled dogs. These people know that adopting a pet is about caring for a loving animal who deserves a good home. If that dog has a disability, it just means they need more love and care.

Patti Mooers and her husband are just such people. When they arrived at an adoption event and saw Bryan, a 5-year-old blind German shepherd, they decided he would be the newest member of their family.

Shelter staff knew Bryan would have trouble finding a home.

Dogs with disabilities are always more difficult to place into a new home. When the shelter held an adoption event sponsored by Zappos.com and the Best Friends Animal Society, they worried that Bryan wouldn’t be able to find a new family.

The event was a huge success.

By the time Patti and her husband arrived, every single dog had been adopted aside from one.

That one dog left was Bryan.

Would anyone provide a home for Bryan?

Imagine being a member of the shelter staff that day. You would be so happy to see so many animals find a forever home, but it would have been so heartbreaking to see Bryan left all alone. It would probably make you wonder if there would ever be anyone that would give him the love and care that he needs and deserves.

Then something amazing happened. Before the event officially concluded, Patti and her husband walked in. Bryan was the only dog left but he was just perfect for them.

Patti Mooers and her husband decide to adopt Bryan.

The couple loves German shepherds and even had experience caring for GSDs with disabilities. Their last dog lost the use of his back legs and used a wheelchair for mobility. Bryan would be going home with them.

“Happy Adoption Day, Bryan!” the shelter wrote on Facebook.

“This past weekend, 313 pets found their new home. Bryan, a blind 5-year-old German Shepherd, was the only pet left. Today, Bryan found his fur-ever family and a place he can finally call home.”

Bryan is adapting to his new home.

Patti would speak to the media a few days after bringing Bryan home. It sounds like he’s adapting to everything and loves being with his new family.

“He’s smelling everything. He bumps into a few things but he seems real content,” Patti later said to the media.

Patti also urged all would-be dog parents to consider caring for a dog living with disabilities. Such dogs have a harder time finding a forever home. Perhaps you are just that special someone who is loving enough to provide them with one.

“Just go meet them and see if it’s a good fit. They have so much love to give and they deserve a good home,” she continued.

A big thank you should be sent to Patti Mooers and her husband on behalf of all animal lovers. They have shown the care and compassion that being a dog parent is all about. We know they are going to provide a wonderful home for Bryan and that he will give all that love right back to them in return.
