These Nova Scotian dogs absolutely love trips to daycare in their little yellow school bus
There are a lot of similarities between dogs and kids. They both love to play and make messes, and they never seem to want to do what they’re told unless there’s treats in it for them. One very noticeable difference between kids and our four-legged furbabies, though, is that dogs love getting on the school bus! Or, at least, these Nova Scotia dogs do.
Good Hands Boarding Kennels is based out of Cape Breton and is one doggy daycare that seems to be a cut above the rest. In addition to offering a large space to roam and play, with nearby woods and creeks and countless play structures, they also offer a chauffeur service in the form of a little yellow school bus.
The bus will faithfully show up to pick up its clients when their parents can’t bring them in.
Good Hands was founded by Rachel Haggett along with her partner, Wayne Devoe 9 years ago in 2011. When drumming up their business plan, they decided to model it after a real children’s school, since their needs can be so similar.
“I figured since we all love our dogs like our kids, it would be fitting,” Haggett explained in an interview with The Dodo.
The boarding facility itself was a hit, but Good Hands soon found themselves in the predicament of needing adequate transportation for their 15-30 doggy clients at any given time. Thus, the Good Hands Boarding Kennels School Bus was born.
Acquiring the little yellow school bus appears to have been destiny, as Haggett nearly opted for a van.
“We almost bought a cube van, but when I saw this little bus online, I could just picture the dogs in it. We had to have it,” she recalls.
It turned out that there couldn’t be a more perfect fit for the boarding kennel. The bus has the capacity to fit 10 full-sized crates to transport their clients that need a ride every now and then.
From the minute they offered the dog bus service, it has been in motion every day for an hour before and after the daycare closes. Good Hands has been providing rides for over 3 years now, and it’s a favorite feature among their many top-notch services.
“Most people use the bus because they get called into work and can’t make our business hours. Some people just use it because of the convenience of it, or they don’t like to drive in winter,” explains Haggett.
Whatever the reason, one thing is certain; all of the dogs love the ride and where it takes them.
As the dogs arrive, they run off the bus completely ecstatic about what the day holds. The bus will bring them to school through snow, sleet, or shine and trust us, there is plenty of snow in the cold Canada region.
Of course, the dogs are always happy to run off the bus to greet their friends when they see them.
Once they do, though, it’s time to get down to the serious business of doggy school work, which involves lots and lots of play…
Though it may all seem like fun and games, there really is a lot of valuable benefits of the doggy daycare.
In addition to getting plenty of exercise and outdoor time, they are also being constantly trained in socialization. Whether it’s with their chaperone or with each other, the dogs are continually learning the nuances of interacting with different personalities and play styles.
After a long, exhausting, fun-filled day of play, the dogs get excited to see the school bus come rolling in once more.
From one favorite place to the next, the dogs of Cape Breton know that when the school bus arrives, nothing but good things are in store.
There’s no question that these doggos truly are in good hands with this boarding kennel. To learn more about the dog school bus and the Good Hands Boarding Kennels, watch the adorable video below.
