Kindhearted nurses help reunite a dog and his elderly owner for one final farewell
For dog owners, their canine companion is very important to them. So, it was heartbreaking for a family after their grandfather was forced to go into the hospital during his battle with cancer. Faced with the prospect of never seeing his dog again, his family searched for a way to reunite the two for one last time.
Fortunately, some nurses stepped in and made the whole thing possible, allowing the elderly man to say his goodbyes to his beloved pet.
A battle with cancer
It started when Ellie Miguel’s grandfather, David King, had to go into the hospital for treatment of his cancer. King had been battling the deadly disease for a long time, and things had taken a turn for the worst.
With his condition quickly deteriorating, family members knew it was only a matter of time before he passed away.
King had one final wish
King’s wife, Cindy, knew that he had a final wish before that day came. He wanted to see their Yorkshire terrier mix, named Lil Fee, one last time. Unfortunately, the hospital where King was being kept had a strict no-dogs policy.
Getting Lil Fee into the hospital
First of all, Cindy tried hanging up photos of Lil Fee in an attempt to placate King’s desire to see the couple’s dog. But this was not the same, so Cindy had to come up with a way for the two to be reunited. Learning of their plight, one of the nurses at the hospital stepped in with an idea.
“The nurses always heard my grandma talking about Lil Fee. So, they encouraged her and helped her get the dog in. They had my aunt carry the dog in a really big purse,” Ellie said.
Saying a last goodbye
This allowed the family to get Lil Fee into the hospital without being seen. King’s granddaughter, Ellie, shared some photos of the reunion, with the caption:
“My grandpa is losing his battle with cancer, so the nurses helped my grandma sneak their dog into the hospital to say goodbye.”
The photos showed just how much King missed Lil Fee, and it was clear how much the dog meant to him. His love for his dog was so great that King did something unexpected when Lil Fee was brought to him in his hospital bed.
“For the first time that day, he moved his arm in attempts to pet his Lil Fee. It was a moment I’ll never forget,” Ellie said.
And even though his time with Lil Fee was short, King did get to say one last goodbye. It is heartwarming to see that King was surrounded by loved ones at the end, including his beloved pet. For more on this heartbreaking reunion, watch the video below.
