Have you ever been pulled over by a cop?

It’s the worst. You’re not even slowing down to stop yet and already, your heart (and thoughts!) is racing, your palms are sweaty, and you’re already coming up with the right words as you brace yourself for the encounter with the police officer.

Well, this grandmother probably didn’t feel all that judging by how this story ended.

One Sunday, sitting on the side of the highway waiting to catch speeding drivers, a State Police Officer sees a car puttering along at 22 MPH. He thinks to himself, “This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder!” So he turns on his lights and pulls the driver over.

Approaching the car, he notices that there are five old ladies – two in the front seat and three in the back – wide eyed and white as ghosts. The driver, obviously confused, says to him,

“Officer, I don’t understand, I was doing exactly the speed limit! I always go exactly the speed limit. What seems to be the problem?”

“Ma’am,” the officer replies, “you weren’t speeding, but you should know that driving significantly slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other drivers.”

“Slower than the speed limit? No sir, I was doing the speed limit exactly! Twenty-two miles an hour!” the old woman says a bit proudly.

The State Police officer, trying to contain a chuckle, explains to her that “22” was the route number, not the speed limit.

A bit embarrassed, the old woman grinned and thanked the officer for pointing out her error.

“But before I let you go, Ma’am, I have to ask . . . Is everyone in this car OK? These women seem awfully shaken and they haven’t muttered a single peep this whole time,” the officer asks with concern.”

“Oh, they’ll be all right in a minute, officer. We just got off Route 119.”

Talk about a need for speed!

So the next time someone scoffs at your driving skills and taunts you for the speed you’re going, have this story ready in case they play the “you drive like my grandma” card.

We wonder just what happened after the officer was given that insane yet hilarious response. It was an admission to overspeeding but it was done unintentionally, and by an innocent old lady.

From really slow to alarmingly fast, this grandma sure knows how to work the speed limit to her advantage!

Being old, charming, and innocent definitely has its perks.

We can only imagine how horrified her pals must have felt as she put that pedal to the metal!

It’s fun to picture grandmas speeding down the highway, though. Wonder what was blasting on the radio as they did? Most importantly, what car was it that made it all possible?

If your grandma offers to get behind the wheel, by all means, say “yes” because you never know what she’ll do! Hopefully, she takes you on an unforgettable ride just like the grandma in this story did with her friends. Also, be careful not to underestimate grandmas you encounter on the road. You might just eat their dust.
