Officers find 2 abandoned pit bulls on street late at night and refuse to leave their side
Coming across two huddled shapes in the middle of a busy road in the middle of the night, Patrick Hennessey did not know what to expect. What he found upon getting closer was two pit bulls, one of them injured, scared, and in need of medical attention.
When the police arrived, they did not expect the two dogs to do what they did next.
The two deputies are photographed with the dogs
As Deputy Boggs and Reed, with the Orange County Sheriffâs Office in Florida, approached the pair, one of them lunged out and right into one of the officerâs lap. A passerby caught some photos of the deputies comforting the dogs as they waited for help to arrive.
They also performed some much-needed medical care to the leg of one of the dogs.
The dogs knew the two deputies were there to help them
The dogs seemed to realize that the two men were there to help them and instantly seem to feel safer. The man who took the photos sent them to the Orange County Sheriffâs Office along with a note about the actions of the two deputies:
âThese pictures I took depict a loving nature from our deputies and will tug at any animal loverâs heartstrings. Thank you.â
Plenty of cuddling and kissing
While they waited for officers from Animal Services to arrive, the two deputies gave the two pit bulls plenty of cuddling and kissing
âThereâs a big misconception when it comes to a pit bull. I canât tell you how many times I got nuzzled and licked by those dogs,â Deputy Reed told the Orlando Sentinel. âJust a week after we brought them to Animal Services, they were the happiest dogs Iâve ever seen.â
The shelter responds
Once at the shelter, the two were treated for their injuries. Named Liberty and Justice by shelter staff, it was a fitting tribute to what the officers provided them after they had been seemingly abandoned on the side of the road. The two had nothing to give but love to the staff at the shelter.
“Deputies Boggs and Reed comforted the two scared dogs while waiting for Animal Services to arrive,” the shelter wrote on its Facebook page. “These two ladies are now safe and thriving in our care.”
The shelter also gave an update on the two gods on its Facebook page, stating:
âWe want Justice (A362290) and Liberty (A362289) to find a forever home. Hopefully together. Please adopt them. The deputies are spoken for :)â
A sweet reunion
In another update from the shelter, this time a video, the two deputies were reunited with the two pit bulls, who seemed to remember their last interaction. In the video, the two dogs hugged, cuddled, and licked the two officers who had stuck by their side throughout their scary ordeal.
