We always say that homeless animals like dogs are more exposed to danger. Little do we know, even dogs with owners are also prone to all types of danger, especially if the owner is someone who tends to overlook things that could put their pets in grave danger.

That’s what exactly happened to this dog when he was left inside a hot car by his neglectful owner.

On June 18 of this year, the 19th Precinct of NYPD on the Upper East Side of Manhattan received a call from New Yorkers reporting a dog trapped alone inside a car. NYPD cops including Officer Aruna Maharaj responded to it and saw the parked car near the sidewalk.

They soon discovered that the poor dog was locked up inside the car for over two hours!

Considering the outdoor temperature lately, all sorts of danger could’ve happened if it wasn’t because of the quick response team of the NYPD. When the police officers arrived on the scene and confirmed the dog was inside the locked car, they immediately broke the window of the front passenger side without hesitation.

There, they were able to rescue the obviously distressed dog that was seated in the back seat of the car. The kind officers quickly attended to the poor dog by giving the obviously exhausted dog some water to dehydrate it after being locked up and some treats to gain the dog’s trust.

It was very hot that day, let alone inside a locked car. If the NYPD officers were late by even just a minute, the outcome of their rescue could’ve gone a different way. It was all thanks to the concerned residents who hurriedly called 911 for help.

“Our cops responded discovering the car off, windows shut & distressed dog. They broke the window, got pup out & off to a vet for care. Criminal investigation continues,” the NYPD 19th Precinct wrote on a Tweet.

To serve and protect – even dogs.

Thankfully, the veterinarian who checked the rescued pup said that the dog was healthy and it didn’t need any further medical attention. The owner of the car, a 26-year-old man who left the poor pooch inside was then charged with one count of animal cruelty.

Well, the wait didn’t take that long because just after a month, one of the officers who rescued him, Officer Aruna Maharaj stepped in to adopt the dog. It’s safe to say that the kind police officer fell in love with the adorable pooch that she decided to give him a new forever home and family that wouldn’t lock him up in steaming hot cars.

The NYPD 19th precinct was indeed happy that the rescued dog ended up in the right hands.

Dogs don’t deserve such negligence from their owners because one crucial mistake and they’re gone. This goes to all dog owners out there, let us all be more responsible with our pooches. If we call them “family” or “man’s best friend”, then we should give them the proper treatment.
