Worried cop enters home when girl who greets him every day is suddenly gone

A nine-year-old named Klynn Scales knew she had at least one friend in the world, the kind police officer that checked in on her on a daily basis. The problem was, that she never knew the man’s name. She was a girl who experienced trouble at home, growing up neglected right next to two brothers. This officer was her beacon of hope in a troubled world. He saved her life, but she couldn’t remember his name.

She wouldn’t find out his name for 20 years. Finally, after two decades of waiting, she would be able to thank him for saving her life.

Klynn’s mother battled an addiction and this brought chaos into Klynn’s life and home. Klynn recalls a 7-11 convenience store that she would steal food from just to feed herself and her two younger brothers. At nine-year’s-old, Klynn had more responsibilities and worries than she was capable of handling. Her childhood was troubled but it was not without hope.

Klynn’s mother was an addict, and of course, this produced chaos in the home. The girl remembers stealing food to feed herself and her brothers from a 7/11 convenience store. Klynn had way too many responsibilities at the age of 9. But there still was hope in her troubled life.

Officer Jeffrey Colvin was that beacon of hope.

“Through all the bad situations, I would just picture him saying that he was here for us and that if we ever need him, he would be right there. He would always protect us, and so those words would come to me during the worst times of my childhood life,” Klynn Scales reported to FOX 4.

Now Staff Sergeant Colvin, the officer has stayed true to his word.

Colvin made Klynn a pinky promise that he would check on the family every day. The craziest thing is that he stayed true to his word. While the family lived in Kansas City, officer Colvin checked in on a regular basis, except one day, when nobody came to the door. He rushed in and found Klynn weak and sickly. He took her to the hospital and she was diagnosed with malnutrition.

Klynn never forgot the officer and his pinky promise. That promise ended up saving her life.

Now, 20 years later, Klynn had moved out of state and had lost contact with the kind-hearted policeman who had been so caring. Klynn was determined to figure out who it was that had helped her. With the help of the Kansas City Police Department, she learned his name and was given the opportunity to meet him again.

She wondered if Officer Colvin had forgotten about her. But he hadn’t.

“I had actually thought about her and wondered whatever happened with her … Most times we go through our career not realizing we truly helped anybody out,” Colvin remembered to FOX 4.

Ms. Scales met with Staff Sargeant Colvin to thank him, but also came with one final request.

Klynn had decided that the best way she could live out her life, was by serving as a police officer as well. She was about to graduate, and she wanted Colvin to be the one to pin her badge as well. Colvin was absolutely flattered and wanted to help. He drove to Texas and was a part of her ceremony.

“I was very proud of her. She really beat all statistical odds to get where she was … Most people would look at her 9-year-old self and basically write her off and say this girl doesn’t have a chance in the world. She’s not going to amount to anything. She obviously proved everybody wrong there,” Colvin said to ABC 13.

Finally, Klynn made a plaque and gave it to Officer Colvin, it reads:

“A promise made, a promise kept, walking in the footsteps of a true hero!”
