Officer pulls out umbrella to shade stray dog from heat and decides to give him a home

Every summer over the last few years seems to be getting hotter and hotter, with temperatures around the country reaching deadly highs.

This summer was no different.

In fact, the summer of 2022 was the 3rd hottest ever recorded.

“Across the country, 26 cities recorded their all-time hottest summers in 2022,” according to Fox Weather, “including Tampa, Florida; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Antonio, Texas; Newark, New Jersey; and Cheyenne, Wyoming.”

In Tennessee, too, this year marked one of its hottest summers with temperatures reaching more than 100 degrees.

Not everyone is good in heat.

And, just like humans need to limit their time outdoors when such heatwaves occur, animals, too, need to be taken care of in order to stay safe.

Our pets need to be in the shade as much as possible.

It is also crucial that they have access to water in order to stay hydrated.

And, while walking our dogs still needs to be done during hot days, it is advisable to have them walk on the grass if possible- or avoid walking them during the day- so that their paws don’t get hurt in the super hot street surfaces.

Thankfully, many pet owners make sure to keep their furry friends safe during hot summer days, but there are others who neglect them and just let them be without really caring about them.

This is what happened to a small dog earlier this year.

She was in desperate need.

The female dog was found by a good Samaritan, who noticed she was not in the shade and it was obviously suffering.

The person called the authorities in hopes that they could help the poor dog.

Luckily, it was Pumpy Tudors.

Tudors is a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper, who was alerted that a dog had been found on the side of Interstate 75.

The officer was told that the dog was in distress because of the extreme heat, so he decided to take the whole thing in his hands.

Tudors soon arrived at the spot where the poor dog was, and he tried to find a way to approach the dog.

“The dog was on the side of #Interstate75 parched and desperately needing water and shelter from the heat,” Tennessee Highway Patrol wrote in a Facebook post.

The man found an umbrella.

He held it so that his new friend could finally be in the shade.

The trooper also found a chair and sat there, holding up the umbrella until he gained the dog’s trust.

Only a while later, the dog felt so comfortable with him that she didn’t hesitate to follow him to a nearby shelter.

“Now, this sweet pup is being TREATed well at Cleveland TN Animal Control,” they added in the post.

Luckily, the dog had not suffered major damage, but she needed to stay in the shelter for a while until the vets decided she could go home.

As for where home would be from then on, officer Tudors decided it was meant for the two of them to be best friends, so he ended up adopting her.

“Trooper Tudors has adopted the dog he rescued. His family named her #Princess. She is still receiving treatment at the facility until she can go to her #ForeverHome,” the Tennessee Highway Patrol wrote in a follow-up post.

What a beautiful story.
