Cop stops to mow elderly man’s lawn and learns the heartwarming reason why the man is so tired

It can get pretty hot in Anaheim, California. On one such day, officers Alex Ungureanu and Lorenzo Uribe were patrolling the streets in the boiling heat.

From their patrol, someone caught their eye.

It was an elderly man mowing his lawn.

An elderly man tending to a lawn isn’t that strange. But what made it unusual was that he was mowing in the flaming heat.

It was hot enough to make most young folks uncomfortable already. Now, imagine being 83 like this senior!

Uribe and Ungureanu had to check it out.

The man was in a button-down shirt and jeans, not exactly the most breathable clothes. His name was Lupe Robles.

Elderly folks shouldn’t be out in the high heat for long. We all know what heat can do to seniors. Heatstroke and exhaustion were the last things they need.

The pair of officers took it upon themselves to give Robles some extra hands. Mow the lawn, trim the hedges and prune the trees, everything that could be done. During their little help session, they found out Rubles had been working on the lawn since dawn.

And it wasn’t even his lawn!

He was working on it for a friend, completely for free.

Turns out, Rubles had a bit of a reputation in the town for being a helpful old man. He’d always tend to people’s lawns just because he wanted to. He was delighted with the help he got.

Robles and Uribe both speak Spanish, which allowed Robles to use him as a translator.

“I was very grateful, I was very happy. They are totally awesome…good friends now.”

The old man has had his helpful reputation for over 13 years. Now that’s some dedication right there. People with this selflessness and dedication aren’t too common, so I can see why Robles is well-known by his friends and neighbors.

As for officers Ungureanu and Uribe, they definitely put a smile on a lot of people’s faces that day.

Maybe Robles doesn’t get helping hands that often?

His neighbors didn’t hesitate to praise him. One of them told CBS Los Angeles that Robles gets up as early as 6 in the morning, all to help his friends and neighbors.

That’s truly a friend right there!

I hope people return the favor as often as he needs. As happy as it might make him, working too much at his age isn’t good. Maybe Ungureanu and Uribe will stop by again? He did say they were friends, after all.

Officers Ungureanu and Uribe enjoyed their day of lending a hand. They insist that it’s part of an officer’s job to assist in little things too, and we just don’t see it filmed that often.

I certainly hope so!

Sometimes, a helping hand can go a long way.
