Handsome cops take internet challenge to a whole new level

Back in 2018, police around the country were trying to both charm citizens and compete against one another in a lip sync challenge.

It started in Bexar County, Texas, with officer Alexander Mena. He worked as a recruiting team deputy with the Sheriff’s Office. Somehow, he also found time in his day to upload lip sync videos to Snapchat.

Upon sending a video of himself lip-syncing the Kumbia Kings’ “Fuiste Mala” to his sergeant, he went viral. His clip ended up on the department’s social media page – and from there, a lip sync challenge was born.

In just a few months, the video had been viewed over 1 million times. But it also encouraged more officers to make their own videos.

They’re a far cry from the viral videos we’re seeing of the police these days, which are anything but amusing.

At the time, Mena told ABC News:

“We wanted some positive stuff to come to the sheriff’s office. With some of the things that happen in law enforcement and with the media … we wanted something more positive and for the community and our deputies to kind of connect together. … I did not think that it was going to blow up the way that it did.”

The trend first spread to departments around Texas, but soon went national as cops around the country were posting solo and group performances – many of which went viral.

One lip sync challenge video made by officers from the Cleveland, Tennessee PD has been viewed nearly 2 million times.

Their song? Camila Cabello’s “Havana.”

Their location was a stately home.

Many viewers noticed that a few of the men were easy on the eyes and considered taking a trip to Cleveland, Tennessee.

We’re not sure where they got the budget for a video with such high production value, but no doubt viewers found this video more entertaining than others as a result.

The home they’re filming at is quite posh – and since they’re singing about their hearts being in steamy Havana, Cuba, they decide to take their filming to the swanky backyard pool area.

We don’t know if these guys are on the clock because they spend quite a bit of time relaxing back there.

And while we doubt they’ve been called to deal with a disturbance, they’re sure about to cause one.

Everyone gets a solo during lounge time before the real ruckus begins.

In order to cool off from their performance, the officers take full advantage of the pool.

Better hope those walkie talkies are waterproof!

If commenters are to be believed, this is all taking place at the mayor’s house.

We suppose that’s one person who wouldn’t have to explain to the neighbors why half a dozen cop cars are parked out front.

One can only hope they took off their shoes before they dirtied the pool.

The Lip Sync Battle was started by one man but later taken over by CBS as a reality competition.

Viewers could vote on videos from around the country. But the men of Cleveland, Tennessee didn’t take home the victory.
