Old man finds dying pup buried alive is “not a puppy at all” after digging to save it
When facing a life and death situation, one elderly man pulled off a rescue just by following instructions from professionals.
However, no one was prepared for what he was faced with after.
Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary in Skegness, United Kingdom received an emergency call from a man named Ian Ellis.
As drawn by fate, Ellis was just bird-watching on the RSPB Reserve at Frampton Marshes.
His telescope suddenly sighted over an unusual scene from afar.
He took a closer look and found a herd of over 30 cows surrounding a stranded pup.
The worse part of it all was that the pup seemed to be buried under marshy soil. It was probably suffocating and losing its breath second by second.
The poor cows were seemingly stunned by what they were seeing. They looked like they wanted to help but just didn’t know how.
Every tick of the clock matters in this kind of situation.
The staff members of the Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary definitely knew that. Wasting no time, they provided Ellis with instructions on how to get through the herd of cows and how to rescue the stranded puppy.
The elderly man meticulously followed the steps given to him. He knew that with one wrong move, he might put his or the pup’s life in danger.
As he got closer, Ellis was stumped when he saw the creature was not actually a puppy.
It was a baby seal.
With the guidance and instructions of the sanctuary’s workers, Ellis was able to retrieve the baby seal and brought it to safety.
They later named the baby Celebration. A perfect name for her since she was given a second chance at life, and because it was the sanctuary’s 50th year anniversary.
Baby Celebration was eventually turned over to the sanctuary’s hospital. The poor seal pup was in a dehydrated and lethargic state.
The baby seal was just 5 days old and most likely orphaned.
She took hydrating fluids the next days, eventually, she was finally given a clean bill of health.
However, she wasn’t ready to be put back to her natural habitat yet since she’s still too young to feed on her own. Surviving without her parent was almost close to impossible at that point in time.
In a Facebook post, Richard Yeadon, one of the sanctuary’s directors said:
“Once she is stronger, she will continue through the rehabilitation process until she is 60-70lb and is able to feed in the water by herself. We will then release her back to the wild.”
One more thing the sanctuary was worried about was her respiration, which she’s undergone antibiotic-based treatment for. Soon, Celebration bounced back to life and took in her new baby seal friends in the sanctuary.
Online viewers were puzzled as to how Celebration ended up in the middle of marshland.
“How does a seal even end up there!?”
—
“How did this seal pup get in the pasture of cows in the first place?”
The vet speculated Celebration was probably taken to marshland by the high tide. Whatever the real reason may be, we are all happy she was saved and is now enjoying her second chance in life.
