For too long, the songs we hear today are written for the younger folk.

Yes, they’re good and it’s great to reminisce about those times. Those were good times, after all, despite the heartache.

But the older ladies want more.

They want to hear a song that speaks to them and what they’re going through now. Will they ever get the chance?

They will and they already have!

Donnalou Stevens, a wild-child creative and artist, penned the viral song, ā€œOlder Ladies,ā€ in 2014. It’s funny how a song she wrote and sang with friends at a party has gotten so popular!

And do you know what else?

This song about older ladies won her the third-place prize at a 2018 International Songwriting Competition!

ā€œWell, I ain’t 16, not a beauty queen, and my eyes are baggin’ and my skin is saggin’, and if that’s the reason you don’t love me, well maybe, that’s not love,ā€ Donna Lou sang at the start of the song.

This song perfectly captures the true spirit of Donnalou.

Since she was born, she has always been a ā€œsensitive, gutsy, wildly artistic child with a will the size of a mountain.ā€

It hadn’t always been easy growing up for her in a family and town that forced her into conformity. There was a point that it became so bad, she had to leave her art. Although, it did become a good thing because she rediscovered the real reason she’s an artist.

And we are so grateful that she did.

Because now, she’s been creating songs that make people laugh, have fun, and be full of joy.

ā€œThe thing I’ve heard over and over as a songwriter is that my songs get stuck in people’s heads. If that’s the case, I only want the good stuff stuck in there,ā€ Donnalou described her intention for her songwriting.

And that’s one of the reasons this song became viral. And judging from its 17 million YouTube views, there are a lot of these older ladies who related to this song.

ā€œAs an older lady myself I really appreciate this. Beautifully performed too,ā€ Cindi Scholefield said.

ā€œOLDER LADIES, ARE DIVINE!!! I adore this, and I LOVE getting older, and NOT younger, it’s so liberating, as I don’t need to answer to anyone, just to myself. So many of my friends have died on their way to getting older, that I’m at an age where I can be grateful, and at times, amazed I’m survived, against the odds, to tell the tale! Love, peace and blessings, for making me have a good laugh, with your fabulous comic flair!ā€ Catherine Blair added.

ā€œI love this song! … Been wondering where the more life experienced folks are on You Tube :) I am glad to see you are representing us well. You have great talent. Thanks for being on here. You inspire me,ā€ The Adrenalized Artist praised the song and singer.

The reactions she received for her song surprised Donnalou. Suffice it to say, she was not expecting it.

ā€œI thought I was just putting out a little song,ā€ Donnaloud responded. ā€œI get to be this voice of empowerment. What a privilege and an honor.ā€

ā€œOlder Ladiesā€ is a great empowering song about accepting yourself, no matter what your age is and what you look like.

It’s all about not letting anyone take your worth away from you.

ā€œIf you don’t think I rock, well, we ain’t gonna roll… If you want a younger model, I wish you well sweet pea. Cause if you can’t see what it is you got, then you ain’t getting me,ā€ the song continued.
