She suggest using a hearty potato for this recipe and advises viewers to clean and dry the potatoes. As she goes along, she begins to share anecdotes about her family’s traditions in cooking.

“If you want it to turn out right then you have to follow your ancestorsā€¦ everybody got a little Black ancestor in them whether it’s 1%, 2%, whatever. You always want to peel your potatoes by hand.”

After slicing the potatoes, she dices them and puts them in water. Then, she drains the starchy water and fills the pot with fresh water, just enough to cover the potatoes.

Then, she adds one of her not-so-secret ingredients to the pot of diced potatoes: chicken stock.

The cook says to boil the water for about six minutes only. Then, drain the water from the pot and let the potatoes cool before refrigerating.

Then she moves on to the eggs. She adds eggs to a pot with salt and water and lets it boil. Once boiling, she removes the eggs from the heat and covers the pot with a lid.

“So honey turn your timer onā€¦ 14 minutes, youā€™re going to have beautiful eggs every time if you do it this way.”

Then, she covers the eggs in water and ice to stop the cooking. To make peeling them easier, she cuts the eggs length-wise and scoops the cooked eggs out. What a fast, clean, and easy way to get perfectly cooked eggs from the shell!

Now for the best part: her signature flavors for the potato salad.

What she adds next to the potato salad is mustard, sugar, paprika, and a good mayonnaise like Duke’s Real Mayonnaise. The enthusiastic cook adds,

“Donā€™t be tryin to get fancyā€¦ just regular mustard, sugar, paprika and black pepper.”

Next addition to the recipe is, according to her, a crucial ingredient: sweet salad cubes or diced baby gherkins.

Once these are added, it’s time to stir the dressing.

Danni adds the eggs, stirs the dressing, and checks the seasonings. Then, she adds half the potatoes. She folds the potatoes in and adjusts the spices once more before putting in the remaining potatoes. She narrates,

“I put it into my bowl hereā€¦ that ole skool casserole bowl, yaā€™ll know what Iā€™m talkin aboutā€¦ and now we are going to decorate it.”
