Try this simple recipe to make an omelette without all the flipping and the mess

A good breakfast will set you up for a more focused and productive day, but most of us cant find the time to grab a quick bite of anything that’s not processed before we start our days.

An omelette is certainly off the table for most as we worry about failed flipping and folding attempts and clean up. But an “omelette in a hole” is a quick and easy solution if you want to load up on protein.

Here’s what you need to get started:

  • 2 slices of white bread
  • 3 eggs
  • onion
  • peppers
  • ham
  • shredded cheese
  • butter

Of course, you can substitute any veggie, meat, or cheese you want and even prep them ahead if you’re really pressed for time in the mornings. The amount of each will depend on your preferences.

Here’s how to get it done:

Step 1:

Prep your slices of bread by hollowing out the inside with a knife. Don’t break the crusty barrier because you’re going to need that to keep things contained.

Then take your crusts (but save the middles) and set them off to the side since you’ll need those first.

Step 2:

Prep your veggies, ham, and cheese by slicing and dicing them (you can leave them slightly larger if you want them to stay a little crunchy).

You should feel free to include anything you want in this step – mushrooms, spinach, and tomatoes are all great options.

Step 3:

Once your ingredients are ready, add a tablespoon of butter to a pan warming over medium-high heat.

When the butter is melted and begins to sizzle (but not brown), add your veggies and meat and sautee them with a wooden spoon until they reach your desired level of softness.

Then, divide the veggies and meat into two “piles” and place the hollowed bread crusts around them so it looks like this:

Step 4:

Now, crack your eggs into a bowl and whisk. Add salt and pepper as desired and combine.

Then, pour the egg mixture over the vegetables. The bread crusts will contain the eggs.

At this point, you can sprinkle some cheese on top of the eggs and veggies, if desired.

Step 5:

After the mixture cooks for 3-5 minutes (depending on how hot your pan is), grab the insides of the bread you cut out earlier and place them on top of the egg mixture.

Step 6:

Let your omelette cook for another two minutes until you’re sure your eggs are solid.

Then use a spatula to flip over the bread.

Step 7:

At this point, your egg should be cooked all the way through and be slightly brown on top.

Depending on how toasty you want the bottom to be, cook for another 2-3 minutes before working a spatula under the omelette and letting it cool on a plate.

Now you’re done!

Serve your easy and creative omelette on its own or with a side of spinach or other healthy veggies to boost your nutrients.
