One-pan egg toast is the breakfast that your mornings have been missing
Spring and summer are upon us, which inevitably means longer nights. And whether you stayed up all night with friends to watch the sunrise, or had a neverending dinner party – one thing remains the cure come the next morning.
The seemingly perfect and curative formula for a late night is a hearty breakfast sandwich.
Handheld bready, cheesy goodness studded with eggs and bacon or sausage.
Unfortunately, the method for crafting one isn’t terribly straightforward. The idea suddenly becomes a process and before you know it, every pot and pan in the kitchen is dirty. Suddenly, the quest for a breakfast cure becomes dismal.
Think about it. First, you cook your eggs to your liking. Second, you have to fry the bacon or sausage. Third, you have to toast the bread and melt the cheese. And so when you’ve finally reach the point of a sandwich, your kitchen is simply a giant mess.
Luckily, the internet recently brought light to a game-changing breakfast sandwich hack that has gone viral on TikTok.
The win? You can have your gooey breakfast sandwich come together in one pan with zero stress and zero mess.
While the sandwich first gained popularity and traction across Reddit and TikTok, its origins may be traced back to Indian streetfood cuisine. It is simply referred to as a ‘Bread Omelet’ and it checks all the boxes – simple, easy, and delicious!
The Ingredients (makes one breakfast sandwich):
- 2 eggs
- a pinch of salt and pepper
- 1-2 slices of bread
- 1-2 slices of your favorite cheese
- butter
- additional add-in options: bacon, sausage, vegetables, herbs, spices
The Method:
The beauty of this sandwich is that it can be constructed in one pan. The method involves cooking the eggs and bread together, flipping them over, and then adding your meat and cheese. This genius hack is sure to revive, comfort, and nourish you in no time!
1) Heat a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat. Whisk together the eggs with a pinch of salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Once your skillet is hot, pour in the egg mixture, making sure it evenly coats the bottom of the pan.
2) Grab your bread. You can either cut one piece in half, or you can use two whole pieces. Dip the bread into the uncooked egg mixture in the pan. Coat each side as you would for french toast. Once both sides are coated, place them in the pan on top of the eggs.
3) Allow the eggs to cook for a minute or two until they are firm. Using a large spatula, flip the entire sandwich over – eggs and bread together, so that it’s sitting egg-side up again.
4) Now you have a blank canvas to add whatever your heart desires! Add cheese, meat, or vegetables to your liking.
5) After adding your toppings, fold the egg ‘wings’ over into the center of the sandwich. And then flip one slice of the bread onto the other. You now have your sandwich! You can add a pat of butter here to toast the outsides of your sandwich until it’s golden brown and the cheese has melted.
