How to annoy a telemarketer with just one word

If you’re the type of person who finds it difficult to say “no” because you’re afraid it might come across as offensive (yes, we exist and yes, we wish to change this), then you’ve probably struggled during conversations with telemarketers, too.

Now, first and foremost, telemarketers aren’t as bad as people make them out to be. After all, they’re just doing their jobs. What probably rubs us the wrong way is the insistence – something that once again is just part of the job description. They’re not that great with timing, either.

Another challenge posed by telemarketers is no matter how politely you decline, they will find tons of ways to keep you on the line as they attempt to convince you to make a purchase.

Well, this guy just showed us how to effectively get a telemarketer to accept his answer.

Putting the telemarketer on speaker, the conversation begins with questions about credit score and getting out of debt. Instead of answering the queries by giving details, the guy just answers, “Yes.”

Not realizing what was about to happen, the caller once again asks another question.

“Great! I can help you do that. And how much debt would that be?”

Expecting to hear numbers, the telemarketer was clearly confused when he heard yet another “yes”.

The caller tries once more by suggesting a figure which was met with the same response. Confused, the telemarketer paused for a second before raising the next question. The clever person on the other end gave another “yes”.

Thinking he was finally getting somewhere, the telemarketer proposed an amount the person was presumably getting from his job.

Unfortunately, the answer was another “yes”. An enthusiastic one, mind you.

Probably going through a list of questions, the telemarketer proceeds to ask about the person’s residency and for him to recite the last four digits of his social security number. As you can expect, the given answer was another “yes”. You have to hand it to the telemarketer – he still wasn’t giving up at this point. He provided the numbers and prompted the person on the other end to give the remaining digits. “Yes” was the answer.

And here’s where the telemarketer loses it.

Exasperated, he asks if the person would be interested in the program and whether or not he was a resident of the area. Of course, the answer remained the same. And the next question?

“You’re also a moron?”

The good-natured customer didn’t snap back. Instead, he just gave another “yes.”

Which finally got the telemarketer to end the call.

This guy sure knows how to do it!

Viewers were quick to comment on their own experiences after watching the hilarious video. YouTube user a moose wrote,

“I was doing a writing session with my band when I got a scam call. My friend picked it up and it was an insurance scam caller. He asked if we could play her the song we were working on, and a minute in she hung up. Just always have a band on you at all times.”

Sara Ferrando Estarlich also shared,

“I speak like four or five languages well enough for conversation so I just like to switch and pretend I don’t understand them, then if they transfer me to someone who speaks the language, I crank up the difficulty. I live in Spain, so I get scammers calling in Spanish, switch to English, they transfer me to an English speaker, then I switch to German, and… usually they don’t have a German speaker so I’m planning to put French after English, Italian after French and THEN German. I’ll see how long they last.”
