Owner asks family dog if he’ll cuddle with the cat and hilarity follows
You may not be the touchy-feely type but you have to admit, it’s interesting to read up on just how beneficial the power of touch is for one’s emotional health. In fact, it’s scientifically proven that touch therapy does wonders. No wonder doctors emphasize the value of skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby.
“There are studies showing that touch signals safety and trust, it soothes. Basic warm touch calms cardiovascular stress. It activates the body’s vagus nerve, which is intimately involved with our compassionate response, and a simple touch can trigger release of oxytocin, aka ‘the love hormone.'”
This explains why warm hugs feel incredibly comforting, especially after a long day!
Ever wonder why massages feel so good, too? Touch therapy should definitely be added to your list of pick-me-ups when you’re feeling out of it, even if it’s a quick hug from a good friend, or snuggling close to a partner while you unwind together over a movie.
“From this frontier of touch research, we know thanks to neuroscientist Edmund Rolls that touch activates the brain’s orbitofrontal cortex, which is linked to feelings of reward and compassion. We also know that touch builds up cooperative relationships—it reinforces reciprocity.”
Apparently, even dogs are aware of this.
One adorable canine named Watson gained online fame because of his love for snuggles. While there is no doubt Watson adores his humans and gives them affection through hugs and sloppy kisses, his favorite friend to cuddle with is actually another dog named Kiko.
Watson loves Kiko so much that he would even put in a good word for his buddy!
All caught on video, you’ll love how Watson reacts when his human asks, “Who’s a good boy?”
Typically, dogs wag their tails in excitement and bask in the delight of being complimented. Not Watson.
He believes that while he is a good boy, it’s Kiko who deserves the praise. Watson’s response to the question wasn’t just to jump up and wag. He barked as if trying to tell his owner something.
But he decided he’d show her instead. Watson then walked over to Kiko and gave his buddy a hug!
What a sweet, lovable dog. Seems he just can’t get enough of showering Kiko with affection. The other dog may not always show it but we’re positive he loves it, too. One can only wonder just how good Kiko feels because of the cuddling. Touch therapy definitely has its magic on dogs, too. Watson and Kiko know this all too well.
While it’s perfectly understandable for some people to feel uneasy about just giving and receiving hugs, it’s comforting to know that our furry pals will always be there to help assuage whatever stress we’re feeling with their own affectionate gestures. So don’t feel bad if you really aren’t the touchy-feely type. No hugs from people? No big deal!
