What is your dream job? Unless your answer is “panda cub nanny,” you’re wrong. This nanny shows why caring for panda cubs is really everyone’s dream job!

Most jobs have perks. But can there be any greater perk than knowing that you’re helping pandas survive by looking after their young?

No, “heaps of money” doesn’t count as an answer. Money doesn’t buy happiness.

Any panda nanny loves their job and wouldn’t trade it for the world. One such person is Zhang Meng, who works in the panda hall in Siberia Tiger Park in the Ji-lin region of China.

He says that his job is happy and meaningful. But he also admits that the job is no walk in the park (although, naturally, it does involve lots of actual walking through parks.)

Meng says that “Taking care of pandas requires love, patience and diligence. You have to make them comfortable around humans, so paying attention to all the small details is key.”

The nanny goes on to explain that pandas are naturally wary of strangers at first. Nannies have to slowly build up trust to be able to appropriately look after them. After a while, pandas begin to trust humans enough to eat the food they give them, which initially is usually apples cut into bite-size chunks.

It’s also a surprisingly labor-intensive job. For instance, Meng needs to prepare and shift many pounds of bamboo every single day.

Additionally, the pay scale is not amazing. Meng makes 2,000 yuan a month, which is around $290. That’s a low salary even in China. But some panda jobs do pay better than this. For instance, China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Ya’an, Sichuan has listed panda caretaker positions that pay 16,666 yuan per month, which is around $2,667. That’s a fine wage for China. The position also comes with the perks of offering the use of an SUV, free meals and free accommodation.

But even the lower-paying panda nanny positions are popular in China.

After all, many people love pandas and will take a lower wage to be around panda cubs all day. Meng looks after two panda cubs, Jia Jia and Meng Meng. He has been working in the role since 2015.

The more that Meng talks about the pandas, the more amazing the job sounds.

Even the coldest of hearts has to be warmed by the cubs’ exploits. In fact, Meng states that the cubs have even built snowmen to play with in the winter!

A video of panda nannies going about their daily routines has also proved to be incredibly popular on YouTube.

To date, it has gained over 2.3 million views. It also has more than 22,000 likes. It’s easy to understand why, when the footage consists of cute panda cubs being pampered by humans!

So you may have to take a massive pay cut, move to the other side of the world and spend your days shifting huge quantities of bamboo, but for many, those things are worth it to be around panda cubs all day!
