Baby panda tries to make daring escape but is foiled by worker in hilarious video
Panda bears are ridiculous animals.
While habitat destruction by humans has been the biggest threat to their existence, their cluelessness hasn’t helped them thrive either.
That’s why for the last few decades, zoos and rescues have gone to enormous lengths to help them breed. And there are panda nurseries all over China that help baby pandas thrive.
If you like watching goofy, fluffy animals with no clue how to move their giant bodies around gracefully, panda cams are the best. And one recent video, in particular, is amusing people to no end.
In fact, since it was posted 2 weeks ago, it has received over 1 million views on YouTube alone.
In it, a baby panda is in a crib with its littermates, but while they’re happy to get some shuteye, this little one is ready to play. In fact, he’s not having any of this crib business – he wants OUT.
By the time the video begins, he has scaled the wall of his comfy “prison” and is teetering on the top of the crib precariously. These are clumsy creatures by nature, so there’s no telling how this might end.
He can’t quite get his little legs over the bars well enough to keep his balance and make a soft landing, so he mostly ends back up in the crib. Meanwhile, his siblings are happy to sleep off his antics.
Now we get a new view from the other side of the crib – boy is he trying his hardest to get out!
Alas, he is foiled by a worker in the room. And she has the worst timing because the panda finally got its whole body over the side of the crib!
Curses!
Now, this caretaker looks like she’s seen this before since she stands there stone-faced watching him ride the struggle bus. She knows he’s not going anywhere even if HE hasn’t quite figured it out yet.
As she makes eye contact with the panda – as if to say “really, dude?” – he’s just not sure what to do. Teetering on the top of the crib it’s hard to tell if he’s trying to climb back in or continue his jailbreak.
Finally, he gets a helping hand – right back into the crib.
Ooh, he’s so mad! It turns out he WAS still trying to escape and the effort is not over yet. He immediately heads back towards freedom.
Sadly, he seems to have used most of his strength on the first effort and can’t quite get a grip.
Pandas must be great sleepers since he falls on his comrades a few times and they barely move much less wake up to see what’s going on.
The ham-fisted attempts just get more futile from there as he desperately grasps the crib bars to make another escape attempt. But it’s clear this isn’t going to happen.
No one ever said pandas learned their lessons the first time!
The video ends with our valiant ball of fur still grasping at straws, each movement more useless than the last.
One imagines that after all this, he really WILL need a nap.
