Parents build tiny village & give each of their teen kids their own private house
Some properties are so big that you can actually create separate parts of a home so that family members each have their own individual piece of the house.
However, this family of four decided to take that concept to the next level.
Parents Keli and Ryan Brinks didn’t decide to build a large home with a section for everyone – they decided to build a tiny village for their teen kids!
The two kids, who are already adolescents, each have their own house, which guarantees them privacy and their own personal spot to hang out without interference from their parents or anyone else.
And if the whole family wants to come together – they’re only a couple of seconds away.
The concept is absolutely amazing and the tiny village was quickly and beautifully built on 21 acres of land in Kentucky.
And this tiny village is a lot more than just a separate home for everyone – there are two crash pads for kids, a separate office, a pool house and there’s also a small house for guests with their own bathroom.
Animals haven’t been forgotten, either!
There’s a whole barn in this tiny village with a chicken coop, providing the entire family with fresh, free-range eggs. The property also has a lovely goat that keeps everyone company.
Regarding the price, the costs have been surprisingly low.
It’s pretty amazing what you can do with a relatively small amount of money.
The land itself costs about 57,000 dollars, and the houses – including all of the secondary structures such as the office – only amounted to 20,000 dollars.
In other words, the financial cost has only been a fraction of what it would’ve been compared to if the family just bought a big house somewhere else.
Keep in mind that because they actually built the entire ‘town’ on land that they personally own, the family actually doesn’t have to pay any costs or housing association fees – saving them a lot of money in the long term.
The parental unit is compact but incredibly cozy.
None of these houses are particularly big, but this unit is the largest at 280 square feet.
It looks absolutely adorable inside and out – and the vaulted ceilings give the illusion of more space. The bathroom even has a full-size tub.
Despite the limited size, the kitchen is actually roomier than you might think – and even if they run into each other, Keli and Ryan surely wouldn’t mind.
The family uses the pool house as a sort of meeting spot for the entire family and guests.
It’s a particularly popular place for the two kids, 16-year-old Brodey and 18-year-old Lennox.
Brodey’s unit is probably the dream of every teenage boy, and it’s decorated and styled perfectly to his wishes.
His house has a king-sized bed, a couch, a dresser, and room for a tv and video games.
Because of spatial constraints, neither Brodey nor Lennox have their own bathroom in their house, but they use the guest house.
“It seems much worse than it is. I just put a coat on if it’s cold or raining. I’ll just bundle up and run over there,” Lennox said to Insider.
The 18-year-old daughter, who now goes to college and only lives there on the weekends, loves the idea of each of them having their own small unit.
“It’s just like having a bedroom. Instead of having hallways, you’re just outside. I like the independence of it. I don’t have to bother my parents with noise either.”
Mom Keli also hopes that their unique living situation will teach the kids a valuable lesson.
“We have taught them to value the Earth and to do their part to take care of it and encourage others to take care of it. Family togetherness, fresh air, outdoor exercise, growing and cultivating food, and taking good care of animals so they can take good care of us is what we want them to live for and pass down to the next generations.”
What a super cool family town and DIY project!
