Parents surprise daughter by adopting dog she had been caring for as a volunteer
It’s the classic wish of many, many children: having an adorable four-footer walking around in the home. For Hallee Fuqua, she wanted to take in a dog ever since she started college, but her mom and dad always told her to wait until after she was done studying. Hallee was attending Oklahoma State University and had to focus on her studies.
However, Hallee’s love for animals never disappeared, and she decided to volunteer at the Humane Society of Stillwater instead to interact with animals on a regular basis.
There was one dog in particular that she absolutely fell in a love with, Rambo.
Rambo is a Plott Hound mix; he and Hallee first met when she was still a sophomore. She and the four-footer quickly grew an amazing bond together, and Hallee visited him as much as she could. Unfortunately, Rambo was having a very tough time getting adopted because of his size and he was considered a shelter regular. He’s an incredibly sweet pup with a loving and affectionate personality.
“He was quiet. A lot of the dogs would bark but he just sits there …He is a ginormous cuddler. He thinks he’s a giant lap dog,” Hallee said to the Stillwater News Press.
Hallee’s special bond with Rambo hadn’t gone unnoticed, her parents started noticing how much love these two had for each other.
One day, mom Jessica couldn’t help it anymore. She wanted to bring her daughter and this adorable pooch together on a more permanent basis.
“I just knew he belonged here. I’ve said ‘No’ long enough. I think he belongs in our family,” she said.
Mom and dad then decided to adopt the two-year-old pup for Christmas, without Hallee’s knowing.
It was still a couple of weeks until Christmas, but the parents figured everything out with the Humane Society shelter to make sure all the paperwork was in order. They also agreed to keep the adoption a secret to Hallee so she’d truly have an amazing Christmas surprise.
When Hallee heard that Rambo was adopted, she felt absolutely broken.
Of course, she still had no idea who adopted Rambo! However, when mom and dad saw just how devastated she was because she thought she’d never see him again, they decided to let Christmas come a little bit early.
They filmed Hallee at the door, with Rambo waiting outside of the home on a leash wearing incredibly cute reindeer antlers.
Hallee’s reaction is absolutely heartwarming, she couldn’t believe what was going on and immediately burst into tears.
When dad took off the leash, Rambo ran straight towards his best friend to give her a warm and big hug.
“Is he mine?” Hallee asks her parents emotionally.
When they said yes, even more tears of joy flowed.
The video was posted online and it quickly went viral with almost five million views!
“So, here’s the story. Our daughter Hallee Fuqua has been asking for a dog for Christmas for years. We told her she should wait until after she graduates college. She began volunteering at the Humane Society of Stillwater. She fell in love with a dog named Rambo and visited him often. My wife and I decided to secretly adopt him 3 weeks ago. With the help from the Humane Society we kept it a secret. She found out this weekend that Rambo had been adopted and she was broken. So Sunday night we surprised her with her early Christmas present. We captured the moment on video. Merry Christmas Hallee! #onehappygirl #onehappydog” dad Lance Fuqua wrote in the video caption.
What an absolutely amazing and tearjerking video!
