Parents surprise shelter volunteer her by adopting the dog she’d formed a bond with

The young woman in this story really wanted to take a particular dog home forever, while knowing that she couldn’t. Luckily, her parents stepped in.

Many people love dogs while being unable to adopt one due to home reasons. So to spend enough time around canines, Hallee Fuqua became a volunteer at her local shelter.

Fuqua had always wanted a dog, and she resolved that she would get one as soon as she moved out of her home.

But when she enrolled in Oklahoma State University, she learned that her dorm wouldn’t let her have a dog.

So to sate her need to be around dogs, Fuqua looked into shelter volunteering opportunities around town.

She learned that the Humane Society of Stillwater was in need of volunteers, and she signed up.

She enjoyed spending time around all of the dogs, but there was one in particular that she grew to love.

His name was Rambo. He was two years old and was a Plott Hound mix.

He had already been with the shelter for some time when Fuqua signed up. The dog, being over 70 pounds, would be a hard animal to get into a forever home.

But Fuqua soon learned that Rambo was a kind-hearted, gentle animal.

Whenever Fuqua took Rambo on a walk, the animal was more interested in hugging and playing with her.

Fuqua could tell that Rambo was the ideal dog for her. But she knew that she couldn’t have a dog of her own. Her parents lived not too far from the college, yet they’d never been dog people.

But they could see that their daughter was really forming a strong connection with this dog. However, when their daughter started sending them pictures and videos of herself with Rambo, they became more open-minded to adopting.

Jessica, the girl’s mom, said “I just knew he belonged here. I’ve said ‘no’ long enough. I think he belongs in our family.”

In no time at all, Jessica had convinced her husband to take Rambo in, for her sake and for her daughter’s.

But when Fuqua’s parents agreed to adopt the dog, there was a hitch. They were out of town for Thanksgiving.

That’s when Jessica had the idea that they could bring Rambo home as a surprise for their daughter at Christmas.

So Fuqua’s dad called up the Humane Society and asked if they could pay an adoption donation for Rambo right away but have him stay at the shelter for just a couple more weeks.

It was an unusual request, but they understood that this would be a surprise for someone who loved Rambo.

The volunteers and other workers at the Humane Society agreed to keep Rambo for a little longer and not tell Fuqua that the dog had been adopted. To maintain the surprise, the shelter’s social media site kept on listing Rambo, hoping that no one would reply.

Unfortunately, someone did ask if he was available. So the volunteers had to say that he was unavailable.

Fuqua saw the post that said that he had been taken and was heartbroken. She thought that she would never see the dog again.

Then, just before Christmas, Fuqua’s parents came to the shelter and took Rambo home.

When Fuqua saw that the dog that she loved was now with her forever, she burst into tears. She was so happy! The dog ran up to comfort her right away, so excited to see her again.

The dog will live with Fuqua’s parents for a few years. And when Fuqua graduates from college, she will have the dog all to herself.
