After shooting, Parkland high school dedicates page in yearbook to students’ therapy dogs

Last year, something absolutely tragic occurred at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. In a horrific school shooting, seventeen students and teachers were shot and killed. Suffice to say, it’s been a really tough time for everyone at the school ever since, and there’s a need for counseling and support.

Therapy dogs are able to offer a bit of emotional support, and the school has got a whole team of them.

The first therapy dog, or rather, therapy puppy, was a three-month-old Bernese mountain dog-poodle mix who listens to the name River. Apparently, just having her around at the school proved to be a major success and benefit for the students, so the school administration decided to expand the project.

Not too long after, a whole team of therapy dogs was welcomed at the school. There are now fourteen of them in total, and this amount of four-footers makes sure that every student can have access to a therapy dog. It helps them cope with their feelings about the massacre that occurred last year and they just lift everyone’s spirits.

When it was time to create the yearbooks, the school decided that they should do something special for all of the therapy dogs.

The canines have had such a positive impact on the students and their environment, and the school simply wouldn’t be the same without them. They’re essential members of the school staff, so it was only natural that they deserved a spot in the yearbook.

And these four-footers are being honored in the yearbook and treated just like the students with their names and photos. They’re even in a class of their own. All of the fourteen pups are a part of the school and now they’ll forever be remembered by their human friends thanks to their inclusion in the yearbook. Even after graduation, the students will be able to bring up some great memories with these amazing pooches.

The Twitter-account in charge of the production of oversight of the school’s yearbook posted a picture of the page online with the following caption:

“We’ve included these cuties in the yearbook 🐾🐾”

The photo was quickly liked and shared by many on Twitter, and all of the comments were in full support and absolutely heartwarming. The internet can be a pretty dark place sometimes – but it’s nice to see how everyone appreciates this great yearbook page for therapy dogs.

“Awww what an amazing service these dogs did for the students and so wonderful for the students to honor them in the yearbook,” Twitter-user @fsueileen92 said.

“This is so awesome! The ultimate honor for any therapy dog is knowing he/she made a positive difference in another’s life. So happy to see these wonderful #TherapyDogs being honored this way!! #PawFive 💗” @LilyPitBullTHD added.

Some people even can’t get enough of these adorable four-footers.

“No, no, NO! If you are going to post this I need each individual pic with names so I can adequately ooh and ahh at each one,” concluded @XAmandaLafleurX.

Everybody is glad that these therapy dogs get the recognition they deserve.

It’s a thoughtful gesture by the school to treat them just like every human, and this makes clear that the pooches are an absolutely essential part of the school community. Even though there’s still a lot of mourning and healing that needs to be done, having these therapy dogs around definitely helps the students and staff at the school.
