Paul Rudd and Jeffrey Morgan bought cute candy store after the owner passes away

Ant-Man and The Walking Dead could not be further in tone or setting. One, an adventurous and fun superhero flick for kids and adults alike. The other is dark and mature, with the namesake walking dead people threatening our characters’ futures.

But the stars of each respective show, Paul Rudd and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, are very good friends in real life. Even their spouses, Julie Yaeger and Hillary Burton, are close friends. They’re much like any two couples you know who hang out together.

They might not be co-stars on their own shows, but friends Paul Rudd and Jeffrey Dean Morgan do work together.

Just not on a film project.

In the last few years, the two celebrity friends have made some news for a little business they share with their spouses.

It’s about a little candy store in New York’s Rhineback, Hudson Valley area.

The store is called Samuel’s Sweet Shop.

It’s been standing for over 20 years and has become part of people’s hearts there. Some of those hearts include Rudd’s and Morgan’s.

Samuel’s Sweet Shop didn’t have just candy. Chocolates of all kinds were for sale too. And the memories people made at at the store were just as sweet as the candies.

The actors and their spouses had frequented the store for all those years.

Being residents of Hudson Valley themselves, they felt quite close to the store. But a store is nothing without an owner.

And the owner, Ira Gutner, tragically passed away in 2014 after over 20 years of business.

Now the fate of the store was up in the air. It probably would’ve been renovated and modernized into something totally different. But that didn’t happen.

News of the owner’s passing reached them. Their favorite little candy store at the corner might disappear soon.

Morgan then pitched an idea during a friendly meetup between the couples. What if they bought the store instead?

He meant it half-jokingly, but they legitimately approved of the idea.

Who better to continue the place’s legacy than them? They clearly had the means – and the heart – to do it.

So no shopping mall or fancy new restaurant would take its place.

Samuel’s Sweet Shop would continue business like it has since 1994.

Now with some very famous faces running the place.

The website, however, is very modest with mentioning this detail.

“Just when it appeared that Samuel’s might have to close, three local families who knew and loved Ira and the shop stepped forward. As friends, they all shared a deep passion for Samuel’s and what it meant to Rhinebeck, to their children and to me. So they bought it!” – wrote John Traver on the website’s “Our history” page.

In fact, Rudd and Morgan appear on the website with their spouses.

They even have special packed candies with their faces on them.

Rudd even appeared on Seth Meyer’s show to promote the store.

Taking a look at their Instagram, I’ve got to admit their products do look tasty.

After years of taking their kids and spouses to the store, they now get to care for the store themselves. Samuel’s Sweet Shop is in good hands now, and I bet they’d have it no other way.

I reckon Paul Rudd and Jeffrey Dean Morgan saving a candy store is something more people would want to read about. Give this article a share so your friends and family can see it too!
