Putting peanuts in Coca-Cola is now the hottest Southern trend after making a big comeback

Coca-Cola is the beverage that goes with everything, isn’t it? The list of things that pair with Coca-Cola just goes on and on. It’s a beverage that goes with burgers, steaks, pizzas, rice meals, sandwiches, chicken, and salad. It even gets paired with ice cream, as proven by how popular Coke McFloats are.

But is there a limit to what kind of things you can pair with Coca-Cola?

There’s one recipe making the rounds again, and it’s got people scratching their heads and doing a double-take. Some people say it’s a natural pairing, and others can hardly believe that some people even do it.

It’s peanuts…in Coca-Cola.

Yes, the sweet and/or salty nuts that we all love to snack on have been tossed into Coca-Cola bottles, and apparently taste really good. Though there’s no doubt that you might get some weird looks if you did this. At least, in places where it’s not common.

Some people may even think you’re a bit…..nuts.

But not everyone will think you’re crazy. The peanuts in Coca-Cola fad isn’t a new one. It’s a grand old Southern tradition that just happened to live on. Still, salty peanuts in a sweet and fizzy drink do seem like an unusual mix.

Every common thing we do now was a crazy idea at some point if you think about it.

The combination of sweet, salty, and fizzy is a lot tastier than you’d expect. There’ve been crazier food combinations, to be fair. As for how the duo of peanuts and Coca-Cola came to be, there’s been a fair guess that it started in the 1920s when both products were mainstays of stores.

Construction workers and drivers may have found it easier to not have a busy or greasy hand when working, so keeping the peanuts in the bottle was a convenient- and surprisingly tasty – solution.

Just don’t try it with diet Coke or Coke Zero. It’s not the same.

Pairing the salty peanuts with the non-sugar variants of Coca-Cola won’t spell out the same results, unfortunately. Something about those artificial sweeteners just doesn’t mix well with the real salt of the peanuts.

It’s got to be the actual, sugary, original flavor of Coke for it to work. Shouldn’t be too hard, right? Everyone lives near a place that sells Coca-Cola.

I might be pressed to give this combination a try if it’s really as good as the Southerners say.

What next? Popcorn in Pepsi? Oh, I better keep my mouth shut before someone gets any ideas. But hey, if you’re at a movie theater next time…

Find out how it tastes yourself if you’re that curious. It might come in handy next time.

Maybe now’s the perfect time for this old Southern trend to make a comeback.

Try the combination yourself, and let people know how it tastes.
