Two major pet store chains are covering senior pet adoption fees through month of November

“Adopt don’t shop” they always say, and they’re right. People need to know that the best companions are the ones also looking for companions.

A lot of animals are abandoned and would happily fit into a new home.

The question is, is it yours?

But it’s one thing to say the phrase, how about finding another way to push people to do it?

It’d help a lot if there was. The number of stray animals around the globe is beyond count, and anything to decrease that number even a tiny bit is welcome.

Stella’s and Chewy’s are making it easy.

For November, when National Adopt A Senior Pet Month takes place, the company is making sure that senior strays and rescues get the forever homes they deserve.

Senior years come way earlier for pets than for us. In just six years, a pet is already counted as a senior. Ten years is even longer!

When they get that old, it’s imperative that they have someone to take care of them. Their joints and eyes just aren’t what they used to be.

They need love and affection.

When your pet starts to reach those senior years, it’d be a great idea to take them to the vet more regularly.

Even if they don’t exactly have any diseases, it still helps to know if you should be helping their joints more. Or accommodate for their dwindling vision and hearing.

Be there for them.

“The journey home fund program is something that we started at Stella and Chewy’s because we wanted to bring attention to senior pets.” – Marie Moody, founder of Stella and Chewy’s

As animals age, you’ll start to notice that they’re way more vulnerable to diseases too.

Cancer, heart, and liver diseases are just a few of the things that could make things hard for a senior pet.

Another thing that makes it hard for senior pets to find new homes is not being as “cute” as a young pet.

People just want a cute thing to entertain themselves with. Then they grow bored of it when it’s older and leave it at a shelter before the cycle repeats.

So this move from Stella and Chewy’s is really a huge help.

Some of the elderly dogs they have up for adoption are Hokum the Pitty, Fern the Chihuahua, Skippy the Terrier Mix, and Molly who seems to be a Spitz mix.

Stella and Chewy’s is helping by shouldering the adoption fees.

They’ll cover fees for pets 5 and up.

It’s a small price to pay if it means making a lot of pets’ lives better. The company is dead-set on this, which should come as no surprise.

Their very brand names come from 2 senior pets as well. And it’s only fair that they give back to pets like the ones in their namesake.

When you’re all old and grey, I’m sure you’d appreciate having a home with people taking care of you too.

Though these pets might not have that many years more to stay, they still deserve the best years possible while they’re still here.

Adopt one if you’re longing for a companion! And let’s give a huge thanks to Stella and Chewy’s for making this possible.
