Dog with autoimmune disease defies all odds by showing everyone his inner beauty

Dogs are adorable from all angles. Match it with their positive attitude and playful side, everything about them is simply beautiful.

But when we define “beauty”, however, most people usually think about the outside, setting aside the beauty within. Unfortunately, that’s what exactly happened to this poor dog.

Phoenix is a beautiful dog, but oftentimes, he’s unable to show it to people because of his physical appearance.

He just wants genuine love and care from people, sadly, he doesn’t get much of it once people lay their eyes on him.

Neglected and unwanted.

Phoenix was an abandoned dog. He was a stray roaming around in search of food, he minded not even a bit about the dangers of the streets. People who saw him were still kind enough to extend their help to the poor dog, however, his physical appearance was always an issue.

To make matters worse, because of how he looked on the outside, people called him names such as “freakish” or “horrifying.”

Thankfully, there were kindhearted people who still saw his beauty within. They didn’t just see how adorable Pheonix was but also did anything to the best of their ability to help him.

The start of a new beginning.

Skiatook Paws & Claws Animal Rescue, a non-profit organization based in Skiatook, Oklahoma learned about Phoenix’s situation. After knowing the dog’s story, they’re always ready to help workers didn’t think twice about rescuing him from his miserable life on the streets.

His physical appearance didn’t hinder them to do what they’ve been always doing. To them, he’s just as lovely as the countless dogs that they’ve rescued in the past.

When SPACAR first met Phoenix, it became clear to them that he was once an animal companion of someone. However, it also came with a realization that they did nothing to make sure the poor dog had everything he needed.

Carisa Ducharne from Skiatook Paws & Claws said, “He was skin and bones. You could see all his ribs. [He was] just so inflamed that he couldn’t close his eyes. He had so much swelling and inflammation in his face.”

The true meaning of “beauty.”

SPACAR’s rescue team was still clueless as to why Phoenix possessed such a unique appearance. Nonetheless, when they found him, he didn’t show any signs of discomfort or distrust toward humans.

Whatever had happened to him in the past didn’t fill his heart with hatred, it’s still filled with so much love instead. He was still a jolly dog who wanted nothing but human attention.

Skiatook Paws & Claws Animal Rescue shared updates about Phoenix on their social media account. There, they found tons of friends and people who admired the dog’s vibrant aura. A lot of people also gave all sorts of assistance to help the rescue team, particularly with the medical bills.

One of the many contributors to Phoenix’s journey was Family Animal Medicine. They did whatever they could, particularly in knowing what caused his physical appearance to be different from the other dogs.

They soon declared that the poor dog had autoimmune disease, however, they weren’t quite sure which one was really it.

Getting better.

The community’s outpour of support made everything a lot better for Phoenix and his journey to becoming a healthier version of himself. He was in better shape then and it was all thanks to his carers who were ready 24/7 to help him with anything.

“He’s done nothing but improve every single day,” said Ducharne. “I wouldn’t say this is intentional trauma, but neglect is also abuse, and he was without a doubt neglected.”

In fact, aside from all kinds of help, there were also a few offers of adoption from people who wanted to bring him home.

Goodbye.

Phoenix was without a doubt, a fighter, and a dog that was worth loving and caring for. Although there was a downpour of support and people who were tirelessly giving all they can to completely keep the dog away from danger, unfortunately, he passed away summer of 2020.

He was truly an inspiration not only to dogs but also to people. He taught us all how to look past the physical appearance and to focus more on the beauty from the inside.
