Man headed out to pursue photography hobby finds baby bears 'dancing' in the forest

Green pastures and meadows, old trees, and mysterious animals all make for great fairy tales. While many of us are content to read about these adventurous stories, this photographer witnessed on with her own eyes – and got pictures!

This photographer photographed bear cubs dancing and playing in a wooded clearing!

Valtteri Mulkahainen is a PE teacher from Sotkamo, Finland, and loved his job! After a while, he decided that he wanted to start working on a new hobby – photography! Having a passion for it, Valtteri decided he wanted to get more serious about his new activity.

Spending six years traveling around his country and landscape, Valtteri learned how to shoot the incredible land and wildlife around him.

Wildlife photography is a difficult, yet rewarding, passion. Many adventures start with optimism and end with disappointment as you return home with a blank film reel.

Even though it’s tough, sometimes the effort pays off…and the results always stun us.

One of Valtteri’s most magical moments happened when he had his camera in his hand. Like any other day, he set off to go get some shots of whatever wildlife he could find. On a beautiful day in June of 2013, he decided he was going to explore the Martinselkonen forest of Finland. He began his trek, bringing along his camera, of course.

After adventuring through the woods, he stumbled upon an incredible scene.

Pulling out his camera and hiding, he focused on what he was witnessing. A mother bear and three fluffy cubs were in a clearing and were having a blast! Playing and rolling around, Valterri was able to capture some incredible shots.

Like a normal mom, she was concerned with more important things, like getting food for her family.

The cubs appear to be dancing in many of the incredible shots that were taken. As the cubs danced and frolicked around, mama bear was busy taking care of bear-business.

“They stood in a circle and began to push each other, stamping their feet; it was like dancing in a circle. They stood there for about half a minute, pushing and shoving,” Valtteri tells My Modern Met.

The cubs were completely comfortable, outside of the apparent eye of anyone else, they were able to play and have fun without any fear!

“The cubs behaved like little children,” the photographer told in his interview with Bored Panda. “They were playing, and even started a few friendly fights. I felt like I was on a playground in front of my house, where small children frolic around. That’s how much they reminded me of little children. At one point, the three of them got up on their hind legs and started pushing each other. It was like they were dancing in a circle.”

Watching these animals live their lives is incredibly sobering and beautiful.

While in a shelter 50m away from the bears, I am sure that Valtteri had a moment that he will remember forever.

Valtteri hopes to spread awareness and the fragility of the world around us, through his pictures.
