Police officers do hilarious dance challenge with local kids
Let’s face it, police officers don’t have the best rep.
We assume that because they’re so strict on abiding the law, they’re absolutely no fun at all – a bit like our parents were when we were children. Yet this is far from true. Police officers are just normal people, and many of them are mums and dads, neighbors, brothers, sisters… and they’re capable of switching off when they’re out of work mode.
There’s no better example that demonstrates this than the video of the hilarious dance challenge produced by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
The video begins with a documentary-style opening, where the camera follows detective Sargent Gary Sanders as he takes to the streets to check out a dance studio, where there have been reports of noise complaints.
When Sanders shows up, he’s met with an innocent bunch of kids, who are practicing their street-dancing moves to a pop tune – which is admittedly quite loud!
Sanders glares at the kids, letting them know who’s boss. He asks for the music to be switched off, then goes on a very policeman-esque rant about the out-of-control noise problem. He writes the kids a ticket for their actions, and everything seems pretty doom and gloom.
But not for long! The sassy kids refuse the ticket, and one of them calls out that they should fix this another way: with a dance-off.
Sanders is quick to agree to the challenge. He and his colleagues meet the kids at the local ballpark dance-off commences. The little ones strut their stuff, giving it all they’ve got, all the while staring down the cops with serious attitude.
We think they’ve won there and then, but then the cops get started! They really look the part, with their dark sunglasses and blank faces, and they somehow manage to give the kids a run for their money.
Truthfully, the cops’ dancing is nothing on the kids, but they still give it their best. A couple of men link arms and kick their legs like they’re doing the can-can. Another does his own version of the “Bernie Lean,” a viral dance move that most of us know well!
At times, there’s a fair bit of dad dancing going on, and it’s safe to say their moves could be more polished. We can’t deny that the kids are the clear winners of the dance duel! The cops seem to accept this in the end, and we’re treated to a collaborative dance between the two competing groups. This routine includes hair flicking, finger waggling, chest pumping, and plenty of attitude.
Impressively, the cops do a good job of following the dance moves, somehow managing to maintain the straightest of faces.
Finally, there’s success for the kids, when Detective Sargent Sanders tears up the noise complaint ticket and tosses it over his shoulder, while everyone gives a cheer. The question on everyone’s minds is: did another cop fine Sanders for littering? We’ll never know.
The next minute, Sam Hunt’s “House Party” is blaring out, the cops and kids are miming along, and there’s a happy ending for all.
It’s pretty clear that the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is more than capable of having a good time off-duty. Check out the video and prepare to have a giggle!
