When Pickles and all of the other piglets her age were loaded onto a truck, she had no idea how much danger she was in. Luckily, against all the odds, she escaped and found a home.

Pickles had enjoyed her life on the farm, not knowing that it was almost certain to have an abrupt end.

One morning, something unusual happened. She and a large group of the other piglets got led away from the farm facilities and into a truck. This truck was headed to the slaughterhouse.

Pickles was panicking on board. She could tell that something was very wrong and was determined to escape.

As the truck was heading down Interstate 44, it got stuck in traffic. An animal lover was in the car next to the truck.

Pickles stared out of the truck. The woman could see the fear in her eyes.

She then looked at the traffic jam and determined that she had a chance to literally save Pickles’s bacon.

So she got out of the car, reached in to a gap in the truck and pulled the piglet out.

She placed the piglet in the car, hoping that the truck driver hadn’t noticed her rescue.

When the traffic cleared, the truck drove on, none the wiser to the pignapping.

Luckily, the woman already knew an animal rescue organization. She called them up.

Randy Grim answered the phone. He heard about the piglet that was now seeking asylum. Randy said that there was room on the Rescue Ranch for her.

Usually, Randy’s Rescue Ranch houses larger animals, like horses, and dogs. But this time, he decided to make an exception.

Over the next few days, Randy gave Pickles her name and grew close to the little girl. The piglet was more than happy to follow Randy around on the farm. She was also friendly with all the other animals.

That was when Randy realized that Pickles could help others. He decided to begin training the baby to become a therapy pig.

Pickles has now been on Randy’s Rescue Ranch for two years. She weighs more than 300 pounds and consumes $200 worth of food every week.

But Pickles is more than worth this cost. Thanks to her training, she is great with any children that come to visit the ranch.

Randy has even gone as far as to call Pickles one of his best friends!

Pickles has no idea how lucky she is. Thanks to that one woman on the interstate, she now lives a life of luxury. She has also enriched the lives of Randy and the people who visit the ranch.

It may be hard to believe that a pig could become a therapy animal, but it’s true.

But there is a lot of work that comes with recognizing a pig as a therapy animal. The North American Pet Pig Association states that to be a therapy animal, a pig needs to respond to their name whenever they’re called and be able to resist food. The food resistance is especially hard for a pig!

Randy has not said whether or not Pickles ever passed the test to become a therapy animal. Even if she never becomes one, she is still an amazing animal.
