When the pilot makes special announcements on board, it’s usually referring to someone celebrating a birthday or an anniversary, a frequent flyer member, or to just tell the passengers to enjoy their flight.

But on a United Airlines flight earlier this year, the pilot announced that there was a special passenger on board which apparently is very close to his heart.

On the video uploaded by Michelle A. on YouTube, she mentioned that her mom had been a Capital Airlines flight stewardess 60 years ago. She left her career before Capital merged with United Airlines to raise her three children.

Now an adult, Michelle gave her mom a special surprise on their flight this year.

Michelle was recording every moment as the pilot made his announcement and asked, “If you were a Capital Airlines stewardess, would you mind raising your hand?”

In the video, we can see Michelle’s mom got surprised for a moment but immediately raised her hand saying, “Oh my God!”

The rest of the passengers gave the old lady a round of applause as the pilot continues on in saying that she was “the greatest mom ever.”

But the special announcement isn’t done yet as Michelle turned the camera to the aisle as we see the pilot towards them.

Her mom suddenly got emotional over this as she says to her family, “I think I’m gonna cry.”

You’re probably thinking as to why Michelle’s mom suddenly got emotional, it was because the pilot is her older brother! He had followed her Mom’s footsteps and became a United Airlines pilot.

The pilot walked towards his mom and leaned down to give her a warm hug, saying, “I love you.”

His mom then responds, “You had the greatest dad ever,” then mentioned to everyone that his dad was also a pilot. Being in the air definitely runs in the family!

Their mom had no idea that her son was flying them to their destination at this flight, hence making the surprise even more heartwarming. It may feel like a coincidence to her, but most probably this was already planned in the first place.

After being posted in January this year, the video touched the hearts of millions as it becomes viral with more than 3 million views and over 90,000 likes. The viewers only had pleasant things to say, such as:

“You know life’s too short not say how you feel about your parents. I have the upmost respect for this Captain/son to do this for your Mom. I lost my mom way too soon to cancer so this means everything to me. I have the upmost respect for the captain to do what he did.”

“One of the proudest moment for mom and the son, that the son is riding his mom home in an expensive aircraft, I wish I could have done that to make my mum proud”

And, one of the commenters actually knew the pilot and said:

“I LOVE HIM!!!!! HE is my favorite Captain on United… extremely professional and kind to passengers. When I started out as a flight attendant, he was patient unlike other pilots lol. His mom must be incredibly proud for raising a fine gentleman!! Beautiful video and heartwarming. Thank you for sharing. We need more Captains like him!!! ❤🤗”
