The Pioneer Woman’s foster son opens up about her husband who made him part of the family 3 yrs ago
It is a hard truth to accept, but we all know that not all kids born get the privilege of having a family.
Some kids, 1 out of 17 according to the Foster America website, end up in foster care.
Furthermore, not all of the kids in the foster care system get a good education, with a number of them not being able to complete high school at all.
It is unfortunate to know that some of these kids end up in dire situations, but on the other hand, there are also stories that tell us about how kids are lifted from the system and finally find a home and family of their own.
Jamar Goff was 17 years old and a foster kid.
Growing up, the young man did not have everything in the world.
Life was always filled with struggles for him, and he had gotten tough over the years because of the things he experienced.
Not having a permanent family to look after him and give him the attention and love he needed and deserved was something that Jamar had to endure.
It was not easy, but the young man pulled through somehow.
Jamar became friends with Bryce and Todd Drummond and this was the moment his life changed for the better.
Bryce and Todd played football with Jamar, and during some of their games, their father Ladd would watch them and start to get to know Jamar.
He found out about his story and decided to do something that absolutely changed the life of the young man for the better.
After some time of learning more about the foster kid, Ladd came up with an idea, and that was to adopt Jamar.
He opened up about this with his wife, Ree Drummond, also known as the Pioneer Woman.
Ree was not too sure about accepting a 6-foot-5-inch guy inside her home, but Ladd assured her that it was alright.
The couple had four other children in their home. Jamar and Ree finally met, and at that moment, the woman knew that they would be having another member in their family.
Jamar is sweet and very appreciative of the family’s gesture and could not believe that everything was actually happening.
He has lived with the family for three years and when he turned 18, Ree finally opened up about her foster son.
“Jamar is our bodacious, bright, brilliant bonus kid,” Ree says.
It is true that ever since Jamar got fostered by the family, his future has been brighter.
He was able to finish high school and received multiple football scholarships for college.
He is truly blessed to be part of the Drummonds and he shared his gratefulness through an appreciation post for his foster parents, especially his foster dad, Ladd.
Jamar wrote on Instagram:
“I’ve been blessed with the best father figure I could possibly ask for,” the teen shares. “The smartest, strongest, most dedicated and devoted man I know. You’ve taught me more things than you know and you’re still teaching me.”
Jamar is about to leave their family home after being accepted at the Univesity of Central Oklahoma where he can play football and get an education.
Ree is sad about her “bonus son” leaving the nest, but she is happy at how much he has grown as a person ever since they met and made him a member of their family.
What an inspiring story for all the foster kids out there!
