After buying a house, the new owner finds an abandoned pit bull chained up in the basement
When most people buy a home, they give little thought to the people who lived there before them. Occasionally, they might find something that the family left behind, like pictures or some furniture, but those things are easily removed.
A new homeowner got the shock of their life when they bought a home in St. Louis, Missouri after they found a pit bull chained up in the basement.
A pit bull found chained up in the basement
Local rescue, Stray Rescue of St. Lewis received a call from the homeowner.
“I just bought a house and there is a pit bull chained up in the basement. I’m not sure how long it’s been down there.”
The dog had probably belonged to a squatter who had been living in the home. Leaving the house in a hurry, the squatter had left the pit bull behind.
Traveling to the home to rescue the dog
Not wasting any time, the rescue organization sent rescue workers to the house to get the dog. After arriving at the home, the rescuers went down the stairs to the basement. They had to proceed cautiously because there was no telling how the dog would react after being chained up for so long.
The dog was so happy to see her rescuers
Seeing the rescuers coming down the stairs, the pit bull immediately began to wag her tail. She was friendly and began to jump up and down in excitement.
“When we opened the door to the basement and shined our flashlight down, we saw a wagging tail,” Natalie Thomson, Stray Rescue of St. Louis’s communications director, told The Dodo. “She was nearly choking herself as she was so excited to see us. When we freed her, she couldn’t stop jumping up and down and giving hugs.”
Jumping Bean thanked her rescuers for saving her
The dog’s love for jumping earned her the name Jumping Bean. The rescuers cut off her chain and took her outside. There, seeing the sun after who knew how long, Jumping Bean thanked her rescuers by hugging them.
All the way to the shelter, Jumping Bean couldn’t help but wag her tail.
Jumping Bean finds a new home
After arriving at the shelter, Jumping Bean was checked out. Other than heartworms, which she was treated for, she was in great shape. And while she had lived a rough life, she was soon on her way to a new home where she could expect to receive a lot of love.
