Dogs are so special. Even when their circumstances aren’t the best, some still take the time to help and look after others.

This is what happened with one pit bull and a special friend she made.

Dumped on the side of the road, the dog took it upon herself to look out for a fellow stray animal.

Left to fend for themselves

The story started when Dallas DogRRR, a rescue group in Texas heard about the dog, who had been dumped on the side of the street.

Hurrying to her location, they looked for her in a nearby junkyard where she had sought shelter.

Fortunately, in the meantime, a local man who worked at the site had been looking after the dog.

The Pit bull made a friend

Naming the pit bull Pitty, the rescuers quickly found out that the dog wasn’t alone.

She had a 2-day-old kitten.

After they found out about the kitten, the rescuers decided to help her as well.

Following the worker who had been looking after Pitty, the groups went to get the kitten.

Pitty followed closely behind.

After reaching the kitten, the rescuers discovered that she was not breathing. They feared they had arrived too late, but everybody breathed a sigh of relief as the kitten started to cry out.

Pitty and the kitten were taken to a local animal clinic.

Pitty was a real mama, too.

As for Pitty, it was determined that she had just given birth. The former owners had separated her from her litter and abandoned her on the side of the road.

Maybe this was why Pitty had decided to adopt the kitten who had been abandoned by her mother.

The pair were cared for at Mercy Animal clinic by veterinarian Dr. Hamlin, who said they had never seen a pair of animals so different with such a strong bond.

Rescued in the nick of time

And it seemed the rescuers had reached Pitty and her little friend just in time. Soon after being rescued, Pitty’s milk ran out. If not for the rescuers showing up when they did, the kitten would have died.

Pitty was so attached to the kitten that she began to howl soon after being separated from her tiny pal. So, her foster parents brought her back to the clinic to see her.

As soon as she saw her, she started to clean her up. This sealed the decision and Dallas DogRRR decided to adopt them out as a bonded pair.

Pitty finds a new home

Unfortunately, the kitten passed away a week after arriving at the clinic. She had suffered from malnutrition in her kidneys and bladder.

Without Pitty, the tiny kitten would not have known the love and compassion of her caring Pit bull mom.

A new friend

Soon after the kitten passed away, Pitty found a new home. Best of all, she had another dog brother in her new home that she quickly bonded with.

Pitty’s new parents even took the time out to share some pictures of Pitty’s first few days at the vet clinic.
