It’s always so exciting to bring a new pet home. But when there are other pets in the household, you’ll have to take extra precautions to make sure everyone is getting along.

And some animals get along better than others.

There’s the age-old saying “fighting like cats and dogs”, and the famously bad combo, cat and mouse. Or cat and fish. And cat and bird…hmm. There’s a common thread here.

Pit bulls have a bad reputation for being big, bad and scary. Kittens, on the other hand, are known for being some of the smallest, cutest and most gentle things on the planet.

One woman wanted to see how her big tough dog, Licious, would respond to meeting a baby kitten. She knew the gentle giant would surprise us, so she recorded the encounter.

Prepare for the cutest thing you’ll see all day.

She put the newly adopted kitten down on the floor by Licious. The kitten is not much bigger than one of the pit bull’s paws!

She looks curious about the giant pooch in front of her. She starts trying to sniff out the unfamiliar smell, and plays with Licious’s paws like they might be a fun new toy.

Licious watches her carefully, not moving a muscle. The owner checks in to get a reaction from the pup.

“What’s that kitty doing to ya, Mama?”

Just then, as if she’s just been given permission to go wild, she starts wagging her tail and is visibly excited to learn more about this fluffy little feline.

The kitten doesn’t seem frightened at all, she’s loving the attention, and is happy to “fight” back.

The dog just can’t hold back any longer and begins to shower the little kitty with kisses.

How adorable is this?! It’s beautiful to watch the massive canine act so kindly and gently towards her new sibling. It’s like her maternal instinct has come out. It sounds like she may already be a mother, based on her owner’s previous comment calling her “Mama”.

Licious is loving her new kitten so much that her owner has to tell her to cool it on the licking.

“Lish, enough with the licking. Lish, no more kisses!”

But she’s so excited it’s hard to stop.

Is there anything better than an unlikely animal friendship?

While most people think pit bulls are scary, their owners know how sweet and loving they can be.

The province of Quebec, Canada passed legislation to ban some breeds of pit bull back in 2016. But their owners, along side some dedicated animal rights activists, fought hard to have the rules changed back. They now abide by the same laws as all other dogs.

According to the AKC, some dog breeds are more likely to be good with cats than others. Basset hounds, labradors, golden retrievers, beagles and pugs, just to name a few.

Pit bulls don’t top the list – but surely after watching this video, they should!

The video has been viewed more than 10 million times! Are we surprised? Well, no. And that number will keep growing. I know I for one will be coming back to this whenever I need a little pick me up. It’s too wholesome not to warm the soul.
