Pit bull saved by family becomes a service dog after his "special skill" saved a child

Adopting a dog can turn into a miracle.

Pit bulls have long been discriminated against because of their perceived aggressive nature. So when these dogs become abandoned, it can be really difficult to rehome them.

Melody Parkins first encountered the pit bull they call Brutus behind a fence in one of the houses in their neighborhood.

Brutus, despite how people thought pit bulls are, is scared and alone.

Parkins found Brutus in such a deplorable state. He wasn’t famished, fortunately, but his living conditions made it difficult for him.

There was a sack of opened dog food inside the house. However, there was no owner. According to the people living in the area, Brutus’ owner fled the neighborhood after their partner was arrested for drug-related charges.

Brutus’ anxiety didn’t help his case either. Parkins said the pitbull was “real growly” and “barky.” Brutus thought that everyone around him was there to hurt him.

Parkins together with the volunteers from Unchain took the dog to their shelter.

They fed him and gave him any needed medical attention. More than that, they worked on the dog’s socializing skills to increase his chances of being adopted.

It didn’t take much effort to make him adoptable. At that time, he was a year old. He is also neutered and vaccinated. He was also good with kids which made him a good candidate for a house dog.

When he performed well in his behavior classes, the team knew that all Brutus needed was a loving family.

Eventually, Amber’s family came along.

Brutus was welcomed into the family where he received a lot of hugs and kisses. He also got to play with Amber’s kids, especially Jason.

Little did the family know, adopting Brutus will become one of the best decisions they ever made. It all started when Brutus interrupted Amber’s sleep.

Amber said Brutus came running over to her and nudging her.

When she woke up, Brutus led her to where Jason was. Amber was horrified by what she saw. Jason, her two-year-old son was having a seizure.

If not for Brutus and his uncanny senses, Jason wouldn’t have received the care he needed at that time. He somehow sensed the attack without training or experience.

It also won’t be the last time.

They confirmed Brutus’ superpower when they noticed he was pulling Jason by the collar. A few moments later, the child suffered another seizure.

They then registered Brutus as a service dog and he has helped young Jason ever since. Amber conceded that Jason wouldn’t have enjoyed his life as much as he did if it wasn’t for the pit bull they adopted.

People also shared their stories about their service pit bulls.

“I’ve had two pit bulls that could sense when I was about to have a seizure without training,” one commenter said, “They both saved me multiple times. They love like no other pup I’ve ever known.”

Other people defended the breed, especially Brutus. They said the family didn’t get a dog. Instead, they adopted a guardian angel and a hero.
