Pit bull can’t stop talking to mom after she’s rescued from the shelter
Unwanted, ugly, and useless are all words probably said by Maisy’s previous owner. Used as a breeding dog, the pit bull was kept in a cage in the backyard, only getting attention when it was time to have more pups for her owner to sell. And after she was no longer able to have babies, her owner decided to have her put down. Fortunately for Maisy, someone stepped in to save her.
Maisy is saved from being put down
A friend of the previous owner offered to take Maisy off of their hands. That person took the pit bull to an animal rescue where she eventually was adopted by her new owner, Marisa Elbert. She had heard of the pit bull through a friend and knew right away that she had to have her.
“At that point, they were like, ‘Well, she’s a waste of money to feed,’” Elbert told The Dodo. “‘She’s so ugly, nobody’s gonna want her. We’ll just put her down.’”
Elbert had suffered hardship before adopting Maisy
Elbert had lost both of her parents and her previous dog, a 13-year-old pit bull, all within a year. Elbert needed a companion to help cheer her up. Maisy was that and more, talking nonstop with her new mom. When she first saw Maisy in the shelter, Elbert knew that she was the dog for her.
“Maisy’s woo-ing was something that made me adopt her,” said Elbert. “She does it when she’s extremely happy or excited. She’s so chatty and we talk all the time.”
Maisy is quite the talker
Maisy seems to have a thought on everything, commenting on everything she sees. Can you blame her? After being locked up in a cage in the backyard for most of her life everything she sees is brand new to her. Elbert talks right back to her as if she can understand what Maisy is saying.
“We have conversations throughout the day,” said Elbert. “It’s hilarious. The first day when I brought her home, we went down the driveway and I threw some balls for her and she was woo-ing on the way up, woo-ing on the way down. She was just so happy. It’s like she knew she was home.”
Maisy adjusts to living in a home
Her current living situation is brand new for Maisy as well. Living in an actual house with humans seemed to be a little overwhelming to the dog at first. She wasn’t used to being treated well and getting love and affection. Strangely, Maisy seems to sense when Elbert is feeling sad, cheering her up with plenty of doggie kisses.
As for Maisy’s previous owner’s comments about her being ugly:
“She’s got this big bowling-ball-of-a-head and I think that’s part of her charm,” said Elbert. “You know, she’s just such a stocky tank of a dog with these adorable eyes and this face and these little chopped-off ears. Everything about her is just like a big stuffed animal.”
Maisy has also become friends with the rest of the animals that Elbert keeps, including Moto the cat, and two horses. Maisy accompanies Elbert each day when she goes to feed them and has never been afraid of th3em. Here is a video of Maisy talking to Elbert throughout the day.
