Pitbull is heartbroken after being dumped at the shelter because owners are having a new baby
Giving up a beloved pet to the shelter is a fact of life that we sometimes must face. This could be due to a move, allergies, or the simple fact that you can no longer care for them. The reason that one family gave when they decided to give up one of their dogs was because they were having a baby. The family already had four children plus two other dogs.
Unfortunately, the dog, a pit bull named Freshy, was the odd dog out when his former family decided to give him up. Dumping him at a high-kill shelter, the family left him to possibly die.
Freshy quickly realized his fate
As the dog looked around the shelter, staff could see his cheerfulness melt away. It was if the poor animal realized his predicament, and that he was not going back again to the home he knew. Now fearful, Freshy faced an uncertain future. The staff at the shelter fell in love with Freshy and worked to get him adopted before it was too late.
Freshy gets an advocate
Julie Carner is one of those employees. She posted to her Facebook, looking for someone to take Freshy in before he was put down, stating:
“Freshy loves to be hugged and held, enjoys slow walks around the neighborhood and his favorite games include fetch and tug,” Carner wrote. “When it comes to things you’d look for in a dog, Freshy seems to check all the boxes. The only empty box he has is a happy, loving home. Could it be yours?”
Saved at the last minute
With his date of death known, October 11, 2018, Freshy was saved at the last minute by the Eleventh Hour Rescue. The group called mere hours before Freshy was to be put down, offering to take the doomed dog in. After arriving at the rescue, the dog was renamed Stormy.
A new name and a fresh start
Alana Guerrini, the foster who offered to take Stormy in picked the dog up and took him to her home. After arriving home, Guerrini’s cat swatted nervously at Stormy’s face. The dog took it all in stride and calmly walked away. Over his first few days at the home, Stormy proved just how gentle he was.
“While cuddling down for sleep with his boy they both decided they wanted to play a bit,” Guerrini wrote on her Facebook. “They wrestled around for a bit and when the boy’s hand accidentally went into Stormy’s mouth. Stormy very quickly and carefully backed away so he wouldn’t hurt the boy.”
Stormy makes the perfect family pet
Stormy proved his attentiveness and how good of a family pet he was when her son became sick, “He stayed in the room with him all day and nuzzled up with him. And when my son got up, he was just following him around. He just wants to interact with people and be loved.”
Guerrini still can’t believe that Stormy’s former family felt it necessary to get rid of him, “He’s a playful, 2-year-old pit bull. I do have to say because he is one of my favorites that I’m very picky, so I need to find the best home out there.”
