Sweet Pitbull melts with love after meeting kitty sister for first time

Unfortunately, when a majority of people think of a Pitbull, images of them cuddling up with cute and snuggly kittens isn’t likely to come to mind.

That wasn’t the case when this Pitbull met her kitty sister for the first time.

While every pet owner gets a bit nervous introducing new furry friends, we can all be thankful the camera caught this first interaction.

It is as sweet as can be.

Licious, the Pit bull, watches on calmly as the new addition to the family explores her much larger paws.

After some exploration, Licious decides there is a definite need for kisses. So, the sweet Pitbull attacks the new kitten and smothers her with kisses.

“What a beautiful dog! Sweet and motherly too! Kitty is adorable as well! Looks like Licious’ motherly instincts kicked in when she saw this adorable baby kitten.”

The greatest news is that the Pitbull and her kitty sister are still best friends! A truly sweet ending for everyone.

However, introducing new pets can be a stressful time. You already love your furry friend at home and have just fallen in love with a new fur baby. When dealing with doggy emotions, things can sometimes get tricky, after all.

How do you ensure domestic bliss when you arrive home with a new addition to the family?

There’s actually some crucial steps you can take before, during, and after the initial meeting to ensure long-term success. First, consider the age of the cat.

Cats are typically the ones that control the peace of the house, not the dog, according to a study by the University of Lincoln. A young kitten may be excited about having a dog or cat friend, while an older cat set in their ways may be less than thrilled you brought home a puppy.

Paws offers some great insight about what one can do when introducing a new kitten to the household.

First, it is important to swap scents.

Rub a blanket or towel over all animals involved and then swap them. Put them under a food dish, in a crate, on their bed, etc. Wherever your pet typically is, put the towel or blanket there.

Next, it’s important your dog be trained with basic commands.

Dogs are playful and the companion of the domestic animals. Cats, not so much. Ensure your dog knows basic commands and can do them while distracted and/or excited so if they get too excited with the new kitten, you can control the bigger animal quickly.

Be sure to supervise the meetings until you’re sure they get along without you.

If you’re unable to be home, be sure to keep Fido and your new kitten separated until you can safely monitor them.

Never be afraid to stop and seek the advice of a professional when introducing your cat and dog. There’s nothing worse than an avoidable injury, so never hesitate to reach out.
