Pregnant Pittie births litter of 13 puppies after being saved from life on a chain

Every dog deserves a life outside of chains and cages. Sadly, it’s still commonplace for people to get dogs just to leave them chained or caged up.

I guess responsibility isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, huh?

This Pitbull is one of countless such dogs. Her name is Blue and she was an expectant mother.

Blue lived much of her life with a chain around her neck. She had little contact or freedom with the outside world.

Blue was also very, very pregnant.

Named presumably for her bluish coat, Blue needed a savior.

Thankfully, she soon got one. Cynthia from Real Time Rescue found the Pittie and negotiated with the owners to give her up for rescue.

They agreed, much to the rescue shelter’s delight.

As Cynthia removed the chain from Blue and escorted her out, it was clear from Blue’s body language that she knew what was happening.

The newly-freed Pittie knew she was being rescued, and she couldn’t be happier.

The resulting trip to the vet was a blessing for Blue. She was given her very own maternity suite in the form of one whole room. She was due very soon, so this came at just the right time.

When three days went by, the puppies finally came.

They came out, and just kept coming. It was puppy after puppy until there were 13 in total huddled around blue. That explains why she was so big when Cynthia rescued her.

But that large count of puppies presented a problem of its own. Where in the world are they going to put them?

Well, they didn’t have to think about that right away. For the time being, they could focus on helping the new mama Pitbull rest and regain her energy.

Cynthia took it upon herself to play nanny for Blue’s litter.

After feeling that connection when she rescued her, it was only natural. Cynthia recalls how Blue’s eyes just spoke to her and gave her the determination to rescue the sweet Pittie.

She spent night after night helping Blue and taking care of the newborn puppies.

Pitbulls have an average of around 5 puppies per litter.

They have an above-average number of 10 in some cases. Blue’s litter is an exceptional case at 13 puppies.

Cynthia gave them each their own color-coded collars. Otherwise, she wouldn’t know who’s who.

Thirteen isn’t so unlucky a number anymore, is it?

Blue’s puppies were every bit like her. Playful, happy, and most importantly, incredibly sweet. Not a single one had an irritable or short-tempered side. This meant it wouldn’t be too hard to help them find their forever homes.

This proved to be true, much to the bittersweet reaction of Cynthia and those at the rescue. She loved Blue but knew she couldn’t keep her.

When all those nights together at the shelter came to an end, it was time for Blue and her thirteen pups to find new homes.

The folks who came by to adopt Blue were just the family she needed.

They’d give her a nice home and a family to share the love, exactly what Cynthia wanted for her. It’s true what they say: loving someone means wanting the best for them, even if it means letting them go.

After spaying and some goodbyes, they began putting Blue up for adoption.

Her puppies found their way into their own loving households too.

Exactly what a dog deserves. Plus, it does them justice after how their mother spent much of her life. She put up with the chains so her pups never had to.

Now, there’s a very happy Pitbull and 13 of her pups scattered in some sweet homes in the world. And to think that this almost never happened!
