Plastic bags are banned in Thailand – Here are 15 creative ways people have adapted

It may sound crazy to some, but two US states have already completely banned plastic shopping bags. As this practice will likely spread across America, here are some creative ways to cope!

In 2016, California banned single-use plastic bags. And then in late 2019, so did Oregon. Also, some cities and counties across the USA have done similar things. That means that more and more people will have to take their groceries home with something not so disposable.

One country that recently enacted a complete plastic bag ban was Thailand. And instead of complaining, Thai residents have been getting creative.

The people of Thailand have realized that when it comes to shopping, being eco-friendly is more important than convenience. Still, the transition is taking a little getting used to. And there’s plenty of trial and error when it comes to replacing plastic bags.

If anyone is wondering how they will cope with a plastic bag ban, just look at these photos from Thailand for inspiration:

1. The fishing net

What is this thing? It could be a fishing net. It could be something else. One thing is for sure: it certainly does the job!

2. A wheelbarrow

If you’ve just been using these in the yard, you’ve clearly been missing out.

3. A huge sack

Just sling it over your shoulder when it’s full.

4. A clothing basket backpack

This is actually pretty clever, as the different compartments will stop items from crushing one another.

5. A bucket

Some kids do this for Halloween, so why not for shopping?

6. Suitcases

Either that, or she’s going on vacation and taking only canned goods instead of clothes.

7. A coffee cup

Did they make that little pouch it’s resting in or buy it?

8. A shirt pouch

Even if you want to use a reusable bag, you have to buy one. So why not take inspiration from the kangaroo and save 10 cents?

9. The homemade bag

Ok, so that’s ribbon, some sort of pole and plastic from something unknown. That sure is a lot of effort to go to just to use plastic bags still!

10. A picnic basket

Or perhaps the customer is just planning on having a picnic solely consisting of soda, water and chips?

11. A homemade wicker basket

Just don’t pack anything small into that, or it’ll fall out before you get home.

12. A non-homemade wicker basket

Of course, if you’re a fan of keeping your purchases in your basket, you could always opt for a professionally made basket with no holes in it.

13. A metal office basket

Not only do they keep your desk tidy, but they also let you conveniently carry groceries home.

14. Your truck

Why bother with any kind of baggage? You can just carry the items in a shopping cart to your truck.

This guy clearly loves chips. There’s nothing quite like the all-Lays diet!

Like it or not, a plastic shopping bag ban is coming to your area. Depending on where you live, it might come sooner or later. But one thing is for sure: it’s coming.

But these images show that a plastic bag ban is not the end of the world (in fact, they’re being banned precisely to stop the end of the world due to global warming.)

You might think that you’ll never be like the people in these pictures. But just wait until the bag ban hits you. You’ll be looking for your own creative shopping bag solutions!
