Playful cat can’t be convinced that awesome new toy isn’t for her
Who said cats don’t like to play?
On the contrary, cats need to vent their energy by playing alone or with others. They also need to keep active- especially the ones who live indoors and don’t have the chance to go out and hunt.
And keeping active could also mean playing with toys – but not necessarily those designed for a cat.
Like Bell, for instance.
Bell is a former stray who was rescued by Aurora Brooks, her new mom.
When Bell was found, she was living on the streets, and, as a stray, she was suffering from a number of health problems. She had fleas and the cat flu, but she quickly recovered thanks to the love she received from her new family.
Bell now is a family cat that loves cuddles with her hoomans.
“She was always happy, purrs very loudly,” Brooks told The Dodo. “She’s very skittish when it comes to strangers, but she loves to have a cuddle when no one’s around.”
At the same time, she enjoys having her cat brother, Hugo, around her- the two are the family pets and receive lots of love and affection constantly.
Some time ago, Bell and Hugo’s parents brought home a surprise.
It was a new human baby, a little sister to them. But- guess what- the two cats were completely uninterested in the new addition.
“Bell and Hugo couldn’t have cared less when we bought the baby home,” Brooks said. “They gave her a sniff and that’s about it.”
However, the baby didn’t come alone. Mom and dad brought lots of toys for her, too, and we are guessing they couldn’t wait until the baby was old enough to use them.
Before the baby got to play with her new toys, though, someone else got to play with them first.
Yes, you guessed that correctly: Bell did.
She got so excited about all the new toys that she couldn’t contain herself! Especially the baby gym.
It made such an impression on her that she couldn’t stop playing with it. She was convinced that they were all for her.
“I think she enjoys the toys more than the baby does for sure, she loves that play mat,” Brooks said.
Until the day that the baby started using her toys.
Bell got so confused when the newcomer was using her toys, but she just let it go. She was starting to like the baby anyway.
After a while, Bell started realizing that the new human baby was there to stay, so she’d better get used to it. What at first might have been sheer tolerance, with time grew into a stronger bond between the baby and the cat, and now they are inseparable.
Bell loves being around the baby and she’s also protective of her.
So now, Bell has fully assumed her role as a big sister and she’s trying to be as good in this new role as possible.
We are glad Bell has found such a caring home, and the baby is very lucky to have such a cute big sister!
