Poisoned dog covered in insects makes incredibly beautiful recovery
There are an estimated 200 million stray dogs in the world today, some were born on the streets, some were abandoned.
But whether a pet or a stray, all dogs deserve to live a good life.
One person didn’t think that though, and they decided to poison one of the strays that lived in the neighborhood.
This pup had been poisoned and then left on the side of the road to die.
He had collapsed in an alley and remained there for who knows how long, enduring the cold nights and hard rain that came down.
Eventually, a group of people walked by and noticed him, and realized that he needed immediate help.
They called in the local animal rescue team and waited with the dog for the rescuers to show up.
When they came, the rescuers were shocked that the animal was even still alive so they scooped him up and rushed him to the vet.
The vet team was prepared for his arrival and they brought him straight to the back for immediate attention.
The poor dog had cuts, sores, and open wounds all over his body… and some of the areas were infested with maggots.
Very carefully, the team got to work on picking out all the maggots, sterilizing his wounds, and stitching up anywhere that needed it.
The dog was clearly in pain while all this work was being done on him, so he was given an anesthetic to ease his suffering.
Though it is not a good thing that he was in pain, this meant to the vet team that he still had feeling in his limbs which was very important as some of the team thought he might lose the use of his back legs.
For 3 days the dog lay still, barely moving.
His wounds were healing but the vet and rescue teams still weren’t sure if he would pull through.
Until, finally, after 3 days, the dog started to eat.
He couldn’t do it on his own though, so his rescuer spoon-fed him a can of wet food and he lapped it up hungrily.
When they realized that he was starting to improve, the team decided to give him a name… Fighter.
It was a fitting name for the dog who, against all odds, seemed to be getting better and better.
Soon after he started eating, Fighter’s health started to improve much more rapidly.
Eventually, the pup was able to get up on his own and go for short walks around the clinic.
And not long after that, he was ready for walks outside again.
He seemed content to amble along at a slow but steady pace, breathing in the fresh air and basking in the sunshine.
Fighter’s rescuers knew it was a miracle that the brave dog had survived, and they are excited to see him continue to improve.
Though he still has a long way to go before he is back in perfect health, he is getting there.
Fighter’s saviors are excited for the next phase of this wonderful pup’s life.
