Male polar bears weigh 1,500 pounds when fully grown. Females weigh in at about 1,000 pounds.

These huge bears are not exactly the type of animals people can keep as pets at home.

But this close relationship between a polar bear named Agee and Mark Dumas has everyone stunned.

A friendship like this is rarely seen between wild animals and humans.

The bond between man and polar bear began 18 years ago.

Dumas is an animal trainer for films, so he was asked to look for a polar bear for a movie.

That’s when he learned about an eight-week-old polar bear that was being hand-reared at a zoo. The cub’s mom was old, and she had given birth to 10 cubs prior so she could no longer care for this cub.

The poor cub is Agee.

Dumas decided to take over caring for Agee and even trained her for the movie successfully.

But it was the close bond Dumas and Agee would form with each other that surprised many.

“It’s my job, and it’s what I had to do, and then as I’m doing it, I became very, very attached to her,” Dumas told Animal Planet.

Dumas and Agee boasts of this extraordinary bond.

He is the only person in the entire world with this type of relationship with a polar bear.

“I love her a lot. I can’t say she loves me, but she really is bonded to me,” he shared.

Dumas’s wife, Dawn, agreed and said that Agee loves him back.

Agee and Dumas forged an amazing relationship that he said he would never change for anything in this world.

The couple also said that Agee can get aggressive when Dumas’s attention is taken away from Agee. But Dawn said that the bear doesn’t mind her because she is used to Dawn’s voice.

It’s when other people steal the attention that irks the bear.

Dumas is Agee’s primary guardian, provider, and playmate.

They really do care for each other.

Dumas has never felt in danger around the big bear.

“Agee sees him as her mother and father together, really. And companion.” Dawn says, regarding her husband’s special bond with Agee.

And when Dumas and Agee spend time together, Agee makes a purring sound just like a cat.

Dawn knows it’s because the bear is just content when she’s with her husband.

Agee will purr in the video, and it really sounds like a soft engine running after an oil change.

Now naturally, people have questioned why a fully-grown polar bear is not out in the wild. But some only care about Dumas and Agee’s unbreakable bond.

Dumas loves Agee, and Agee really loves her human back.

This is a man who raised and cared for her since she was a cub. That makes them a part of the same family. And even animals know to stick to their family.
