Police dog monument is constructed entirely of seized knives and firearms

Just like in the States, the brave and loyal K-9 units in the United Kingdom are treated with the utmost respect and affection.

These canine four-footers are an absolutely essential branch of the police department and a number of artists in the country decided to honor them and their valiant efforts.

Artists at the British Ironworks Centre in Oswestry teamed up with a professional sculptor and a local police department to create a beautiful moment. One that was made out of interesting materials.

“One of the Ironworks latest creations to be unveiled is the ‘Police Dog’, made in honour of the service given and bravery shown by K-9’s across the UK. Hundreds of police dogs risk their lives, and are involved in violent and extreme circumstances every year, whilst assisting and protecting officers carrying out their roles,” the Ironworks Centre posted on their Instagram page.

The artist’s center in Oswestry decided to make this monument out of something special, and they managed to get their hands on a bunch of seized knives and blades by the police.

How would they have access to this, you might ask?

Well, it turns out that there was another piece of art made with seized weapons called the ‘Knife Angel‘, where no less than 100,000 confiscated blades were used, as well as other items such as whistles, tags, and dog bowls.

The Knife Angel is intended as a tribute to the victims of knife crime, and this new monument is a tribute to the police officers on four legs.

They still had a bunch of knives left from their previous sculpture, and they decided to use the leftovers for this amazing metal dog.

“It will be the first one that’s ever been created using weapons and blades,” chairman at the British Ironwork Centre, Clive Knowles told.

Every single day, hundreds of dogs in the country (and a lot more around the world) risk their lives while serving, and the things they encounter are often very violent, tense, and extremely dangerous.

Even though a lot of knives were used for the Angel, this new dog statue is the first one that’s completely made out of firearms and blades.

Sculptor Luke Kite was mainly responsible for the amazing metal dog.

“Made up of hundreds of decommissioned firearms, and knives taken from the streets of the UK, West Mercia Police felt the need to recognise the self sacrificing loyalty and bravery shown by these animals and truly honour them with a piece of art which would act as a permanent reminder to all.”

“We are very excited to be able to show you, after months of planning and creating – what we have been working on with West Mercia Police and Sculptor, Luke Kite.”

The unveiling was quite special, as a whole bunch of police dogs, as well as their human handlers, were present.

The four-footer Bacca, who is now retired, was there with her handler Mike Davey.

Bacca actually protected her partner from a criminal assailant carrying a knife. He tried to attack the police officer, but Bacca prevented that from happening and got into a fight with him.

The brave four-footer suffered from some stab wounds but managed to recover, thankfully. She was rightfully awarded a top bravery award for her actions.
