Police find missing boy and realize his German shepherd had been protecting him the whole time
If your child ever wandered away from home and you couldn’t find them, wouldn’t you want them to have a sweet dog to protect them? I certainly would.
When another adult you trust isn’t available, a loyal dog is the next best thing.
When 5-year-old Jose Muñoz’s mother was napping, he wandered out of his home without so much as a word.
His mother, Jasmine Martinez, woke up from her nap to a house with no Jose in it. She searched every room and felt the anxiety that any mother would upon getting separated from their child.
Jasmine had no idea where her son was.
Jose has Down syndrome and, at his young age, he needs a guardian with him as much as possible.
Good thing he has one. It’s his German Shepherd Alejandro.
The 1-year-old German Shepherd saw the little boy wander out of the house and followed him, knowing that Jose was too small to be alone.
Jasmine informed the Houston Police Department about the missing boy.
It thankfully didn’t take too long for the police to find him. Sgt. Ricardo Salas was one of the officers who helped find the boy. Through their network of radio calls, they found Jose walking by a railroad half a mile away.
And by his side was Alejandro, who stuck to the boy nonstop. KPRC’s coverage of the story revealed several other cute details about the family dog.
“We got the dog when he was a baby. I was not surprised when they said he was walking with him the whole entire time,” said Jose’s sister, Samantha Muñoz.
Upon finding Jose, Sgt. Salas let him sit inside his car to enjoy the air conditioning.
To his surprise, Alejandro promptly ran and hopped into the car too without hesitation. He really wanted to be by Jose’s side, no questions asked.
Alejandro kept Jose company and kept him safe from harm too. I think he deserves that break inside the air-conditioned car if you ask me.
“Alejandro has always been a very protective dog ever since we got him,” continued Samantha
Jose wasn’t hurt or scared at all. He only had a few small cuts on him, presumably from some branches that he brushed against.
Though it seems that all he did was calmly walk by the railroad the whole time.
Of course, Alejandro can’t be expected to chase after him all the time. Jose’s mom decided to look into child-protective locks and barriers to make sure this won’t happen again.
